Purpose of the Position
The Team Leader, Kitchen Services is employed to provide day-to-day management and planning of the Batchelor Institute Batchelor Campus kitchen which provides breakfast, lunch and dinner to students residing on campus for the duration of a workshop and catered lunch meals for staff.

Duties

  • Be the focal point for enquiries on Batchelor campus regarding information, processes and enquiries related to the Kitchen.
  • Continuously undertake and promote best practice regarding all Kitchen services and activities.
  • Ensure the Kitchen meets and maintains all relevant licensing, regulations and registration requirements under relevant state and commonwealth authorities.
  • Ensure the Kitchen meets and maintains national food safety standards including food safety practices and general requirements, food safety management tools and food premises and equipment.
  • Costing, ordering, and receiving of supplies for weekly menus planned by the Head Cook.
  • Support the Head Cook in the maintenance of kitchen utensils and cooking equipment.
  • Provide information and updates to the Head Cook and kitchen staff regarding expected student numbers, including provisions for students with identified dietary requirements or under care plans.
  • Cost, plan, and work efficiently and effectively within an assigned budget.
  • Circulate a weekly menu of planned meals through various methods.
  • Implement mechanisms to allow for feedback on the provisions supplied by the Kitchen and make recommendations and improvements to ensure an environment of continuous improvement is fostered and adhered to.
  • Ensure staff have and/or undertake the relevant licencing, registration and/or training to support their role within the Kitchen, including professional development opportunities.
  • Undertake other duties within the range of skills associated with this classification as directed by the line manager.
  
Selection Criteria
  1. Certificate IV or higher in a relevant discipline and/or working towards completion of, or relevant experience in a similar role.
  2. Demonstrated capability in the understanding and interpretation of procedures that relate to Commonwealth/State legislation and guidelines.
  3. Demonstrated capability in participating in a diverse team to obtain outcomes of success.
  4. Ability to demonstrate meeting multiple and conflicting deadlines and work autonomously.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
  6. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
  7. Demonstrated initiative and managing workload priorities.
  8. Understanding of Work Health and Safety principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
