About the OPPORTUNITY

We have a great opportunity for a Technical Author Team Lead to join our Maritime team on the Hunter Class Frigate Program.

The Hunter Class Frigate Program will provide the Australian Defence Force with the highest levels of anti-submarine capability.

As the Technical Author Team Lead, you will be instrumental in delivering the technical publications needed to ensure that each vessel can be supported.

The publications are being developed using the international S1000D specification for the procurement and production of technical publications – a new capability for the Royal Australian Navy.

This is an excellent opportunity for an S1000D practitioner to take a leading role in designing and delivering a World-class solution on a large-scale project. The work is challenging, varied and involves a large degree of autonomy.

Key accountabilities:

  • Plan and supervise the work of a team of Technical Authors to accomplish specific S1000D publication projects
  • Manage all personnel actions including leave, performance reviews, salary recommendations, and co-ordination of training and development
  • Assist the technical publications manager with recruiting suitable staff
  • Maintain and update the S1000D Business Rules Decision Points document as required
  • Maintain and update the S1000D Business Rules Exchange File as required
  • Oversee all aspects of the development of S1000D Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP), including the Eagle Publishing System (EPS)
  • Develop Style sheets for the IETPs as required
  • Collaborate with the Customer technical publications team in workshops and working groups and travel to these events where required
  • Assist the technical publications manager in developing schedules and estimates
  • Assist the technical publications manager in developing Baseline Change Requests (BCR)
  • Manage the Earned Value Management for their team

About YOU

  • An in-depth knowledge and experience with S1000D and/or a high level of understanding of XML
  • Understanding of the structure of the Common Source Data Base
  • Exposure to Java or any programming language will be advantageous
  • Awareness of the Webstack (HTTP, CSS, and JavaScript)
  • An understanding of the IPS S-Series specifications (other than S1000D)
  • Experience in using SQL
  • Highly developed interpersonal skills
  • Experience in working collaboratively with external customers
  • Eligibility for an NV1 Defence Clearance required
