About Us

As Tasmania’s publicly owned training provider, TasTAFE is a vital contributor to the prosperity of the state’s economy through supporting jobs and employment and the economic resilience of our businesses and industry. With a focus on practical, real-life learning, we work hard to ensure the training our learners receive is industry relevant and we provide real industry skills that are highly valued by employers.

TasTAFE aspires to be a place of innovation, creating new ways of training, finding solutions, delivering differently, and increasing access for all.

The Role

Join our energetic team at our Clarence Campus as a Technical Employee, where you'll play a key role in making our programs shine! You'll be the go-to person for hands-on technical, purchasing, some office support, ensuring our resources and equipment are top-notch and safe. Your mission: keep our six Allied Trade training areas functioning and safe. Work independently, with a strong team, and under the guidance of your line manager and bring your A-game to assist teachers in the classroom. Get ready for a role that's as diverse as it is rewarding!

On any given day, you will:

  • Prepare teaching materials, set up cool displays, and ensure all equipment is ready for action.
  • Order, pick up, service, and maintain all the tools and equipment we need to keep things running smoothly.
  • Mix mortar, demolish, and clean up like a pro in our Brick and Blocklaying and Plastering areas.
  • Liaise with providers, prepare cost estimates, and make recommendations.
  • Source, recommend, purchase and pick-up supplies, keeping our inventory well-stocked and organised.
What will you bring
  • You've got knowledge and hands-on experience in construction – or you’re just handy.
  • Whether it’s sourcing  or maintaining materials and tools, you’ve got the skills to keep everything in top shape.
  • Juggling tasks with ease, your organisational and time management skills are second to none.
  • Basic budgeting and some IT skills.
  • You thrive in a team setting and know how to communicate effectively, supporting apprentices and the teaching team with care and enthusiasm.

A current Working with Vulnerable People registration is required, or the ability to obtain prior to commencement.

Supporting a diverse workforce

At TasTAFE, we encourage applications from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, people living with a disability, people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, mature age workers and members of the LGBTIQ+ community.
