Job description

Company description:

ANZ Banking Group Limited

Job description:
About the role

At the heart of ANZ Plus is a talented, high-performing team with big ideas. We're building products, services and experiences that will not only provide our customers with enhanced banking functionality but empower them to make better financial decisions and improve their financial wellbeing.

We are building the future of banking and aim to be the industry leaders in how we design, develop and deliver solutions to provide the best experience for our customers, and we seek talented people to join us, work with some of the smartest engineering minds, focused on delivering creative solutions to complex problems.

Here at ANZ, Engineering is about delivering a seamless customer experience at scale through working with the rest of the business in an innovative, adaptive and agile way. The Self Service team mission is all about enabling customers to automate and self serve as much as possible, reducing the need for unnecessary form completion, and waiting in all centre lines.

In this role you will:

  • Solve for problems and issues that matter. You'll work on providing solutions that make an impact to customers. You'll have a laser focus on customers, using human-centred design to provide simple and impactfull solutions.
  • Develop both breadth and depth. We want great engineers, and we will foster our people's talent by giving opportunities to work on things that develop both your deep technical expertise, as well as your broad end-to-end understanding. At times you may be coding in a specific platform, and at other times you may work on enterprise-wide solutions across the business— either way, you get to work on missions that excites you.
  • Work Agile in multidisciplinary teams. You won't be faced with traditional hierarchies. Instead, working Agile means you will be constantly testing, iterating, and making rapid decisions as you go. You will get to self-organise and work in squads consisting of developers, ops engineers, customer journey experts and product owners who come from different domains.
  • Own it. Most importantly, you'll get to deliver end to end service, and shape how ANZ delivers on their commitment to providing great customer service through technology
What will your day look like

As a Tech Lead working within ANZx, you will be responsible for building and evolving our API business service landscape and developing a repository of reusable services to be utilised by our front-end solutions.

You will be using a microservice led approach when building components, and where possible utilising vendor solutions that also have a similar approach to designing services.

As part of this role, you will be building services deployed to the cloud, and we will be looking to you to provide advice on the right mix of solutions, and whether vendor products meet the required level of engineering.

What will you bring?

To be successful in this role you will ideally be:

  • Highly competent with functional or imperative programming languages -- e.g., Go, Java, Python or C (we primarily write our services in Go).
  • Experienced with gRPC, Google Cloud, Kubernetes, Cloud Functions and Cloud Run.
  • Capable of leading technical architecture discussions to help drive technical decisions within your team.
  • Skilled in writing understandable, testable code with an eye towards maintainability.
  • A strong communicator. Explaining complex technical concepts to designers, support, and other engineers is no problem for you.
  • Across computer science fundamentals: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, distributed systems, and information retrieval.

If this sounds like you and you want to be part of an amazing team with a great culture, let us know!

So, why join us?

From the moment you join ANZ, you'll be doing meaningful work that will shape a world where people and communities thrive.

But it's not just our customers who'll feel your impact. You'll feel it too. Because at ANZ, you'll have the resources, opportunities, and support you need to take the next big step in your career.

We're a diverse bunch at ANZ in different roles, different locations, doing different things. That's why we have a range of flexible working arrangements, so our people can "make work, work for them". We also provide a range of benefits including access to health and wellbeing services and discounts on selected products and services from ANZ and more.

At ANZ you'll be part of an organisation where the different backgrounds, perspectives and life experiences of our people are celebrated. That's because we're committed to building a workplace that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We welcome applications from everyone and encourage you to talk to us about any adjustments you may require to our recruitment process or the role itself. If you are a candidate with a disability or access requirement, let us know how we can provide you with additional support.
