Therapeutic Advisor- Intensive Therapeutic Care (Full Time roll)

In this role you will provide client centered, strengths based therapeutic behaviour support to young people 12-18 within our Intensive Therapeutic Care homes. You will assist client facing staff in their therapeutic practice by providing a space for reflection, supervision and coaching. You will be based in Dulwich Hill however some travel to homes within the inner west and eastern suburbs will be required.

About Stepping Stone House

Stepping Stone House is a not for profit charity that provides accommodation and personal development for children and young people aged 12-24 years old who through no fault of their own find themselves homeless, at risk of homelessness or unable to live at home.  It is an accredited out of home care residential service providing medium to long term accommodation across Sydney. At Stepping Stone House we encourage personal growth and development of children and young people with the aim of empowering the individual to achieve responsible independence.

Ideal candidate

To be successful in this challenging role – you will need to be hard working, be flexible in your approach, enthusiastic and show empathy, patience and respect for the people you work with. You will need to be a self- starter, be honest in your approach and have passion for working with adolescents.

What you will be doing – Key responsibilities

  • Work with a case load of up to 12 young people
  • Develop, implement and oversee the delivery of effective strengths based behaviour support plans that are grounded within the therapeutic frameworks of Attachment, Regulation and Competency (ARC) and Therapeutic Crises Intervention (TCI).
  • Advise on strategies to ensure placement stablility for each young person and prevents placement breakdowns. 
  • Conduct interagency meetings with each young person’s care team.
  • Mentor and advise client facing staff in their therapeutic practice through group and 1:1 supervisions 
  • Conduct assessments of young people as required.
  • Review and oversight of high and critical incidents with an aim to monitor trends and provide feedback and support to the staff teams
  • Develop rapport and meaningful relationships with the young people
  • Review client matching information to support the intake of new young people into existing houses.

Selection Criteria – candidates must address the essential and desirable selection criteria below with their application 

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social work or Mental Health nursing or related field. (Post graduate qualifications will be highly regarded).
  • Current registration with professional body
  • Minimum 5 years post graduate experience working with children and young people within a therapeutic setting.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of the impact of trauma and trauma Informed Care
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in designing, implementing and reviewing of strengths based therapeutic behaviour support plans
  • Evidence of collaborative working style and ability to build good working relationships in a team and with external agencies 
  • Working with Children Certification and Criminal History check
  • A current driver’s license 

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of Therapeutic crisis intervention and Attachment, Regulation and Competency frameworks
  • Further continuous professional development in the therapeutic field.
  • Knowledge of legislative, governance and accreditation requirements for residential services
  • Successful team work track record
  • Experience with staff supervision, coaching and reflective practice
