Position Objective

The Toxicologist will support two main functions, under the supervision of Professor John Edwards, Senior Toxicologist, AusHealth Work.

Assisting in the interpretation of toxicology results from laboratories and.

Supporting the Senior Toxicologist in creating drug and alcohol policies and other advice for companies on how to implement an effective drug and alcohol problem.

Key Responsibilities

Core Functions

  • Assist with data collection and collation to deliver consolidated drug and alcohol testing reports within required timeframes.
  • Perform quality procedures and audits as directed.
  • Assist the Senior Toxicologist in the creation of drug and alcohol programs.
  • Assist the training department by offering state of the art toxicology data, case studies, published data and advice on how to improve the quality of on-site testing.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Laboratory results reviewed and recorded within required timeframes.
  • Advice and result interpretation provided to clients within agreed quality and timeframe standards.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Analytical expertise in understanding complex issues and their consequences.
  • Understanding of relevant drug testing and collection Australian Standards, AS/NZS 4308, AS 4760 and AS 4633 (ISO 15189:2015).
  • Sound oral and written communications skills.
  • Well-developed problem solving and negotiation skills.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office (intermediate level).
  • Strong attention to detail using a methodical and logical approach with sound time management skills.
  • Highly ethical and confidential.

Desirable

  • Experience in the provision discipline of toxicology and/or pharmacology.
  • Experience in process improvements and technical evaluations.
  • A desire to create new technology and research into drug and alcohol testing programs, devices and systems.
  • Knowledge of legislative requirements including Work Health & Safety, Privacy, Trade Practices Act.
  • Experience in working in quality improvement, internal audit and reporting functions.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Science or Applied Science (specialising in chemistry, toxicology, or pharmacology) or Occupational Health.

Desirable

  • Accredited course in On-Site Drug and Alcohol Testing.
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
  • Currently investigating research and or IP into drug and alcohol testing programs, devices and systems.
  • No Agencies or Agency representations thank you.
