Our Corporate Head Office is located in Gordonvale, just south of Cairns, and our major milling assets are located in the Far North. Internationally, we are part of the Thai-based Mitr Phol Group. Our current assets include three sugar mills, which are located at Gordonvale, South Johnstone and the Tablelands, supporting infrastructure (including cane railway networks), agricultural property and water rights to support our cane growing activities.
In addition to our milling and farming operations, we have built an $86M green energy power station at our Tablelands Sugar Mill. The power station uses a 100% renewable sugarcane fibre known as bagasse to produce 24 megawatts of electricity – which, after commissioning, will be enough to power every house in the Tablelands region.

The Role
Applications are invited for the position of a Trade Assistant / Loco Drivers Assistant to join the MSF Sugar team.
This is a fixed-term temporary position for the 2024 crushing season.
Reporting to the Work Execution Superintendent and based at our Mulgrave Central Mill, the Trade Assistant / Loco Drivers Assistant will be responsible for providing support to the Loco Shed Fitters by undertaking a range of general duties such as maintaining stock levels of grease/oil, re-fueling locos, cleaning servicing bays etc.
The Responsibilities
Some of the key responsibilities will include:
- Safely carry out operations, maintenance and inspections on plant and machinery within scope of responsibility whilst following procedures, using appropriate PPE, meeting quality control and making recommendations for improvements.
- Perform basic plant and machinery troubleshooting and report defects as required.
- Clean various areas of the shed including but not limited to loco fitters work areas and servicing bays.
- When required, be available for Loco Drivers out in the field to assist them whilst driving the locomotives and collecting cane.
- Assist the Work Execution Superintendent & Traffic Officer as required.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Basic understanding of machinery operations.
- Current Driver’s Licence.
- Other qualifications or prescribed occupational training such as forklift, dogger would be advantageous.
