This is an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for a Trades Instructor - Metal Fabrication. You will join Australia’s most innovative and largest Correctional Centre and have the opportunity to play a key position within the Serco team.

About the opportunity

As a Trades Instructor - Metal Work, you will be responsible to deliver and evaluate a range of trade training programs for inmates. Focusing on assisting inmate to integrate successfully into the community and gain post-release employment.

  • Providing a safe workplace and managing operational risks associated with the work and people in the Business Unit
  • Ensuring inmates are provided training that covers workplace orientation, manual handling and the use of tools and equipment’s.
  • Managing the production demands of a commercial Business Unit
  • Implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System
  • Providing quality customer service, communication, and products to expectation
  • Managing raw materials, consumables, and equipment
  • Engaging with other work groups to provide a multi-disciplinary case management model to achieve the goals of each individual inmate.
  • Managing the work routines for inmates and the custodial responsibilities with inmates working within a Business Unit

About you

You are looking for a new exciting career or may have previous experience in a correctional environment. You are motivated and ready to apply your skills and develop new skills to achieve success as a Trade Instructor

You will have a commitment to ongoing improvement and well-developed operational skills in a production environment.

You will possess a history of commercial success and an ability to manage a range of individual workers with different levels of practical skills.

You also have strong communication skills and are respectful. You will hold a commitment for the on-going development of inmate trade skills as a corner stone of rehabilitation and successful community reintegration.

Your ideal skills and experience

  • Hold a Certificate III in Engineering Fabrication or other Metal based Trade.
  • Certificate IV Training & Assessment or training will be provided to obtain the required competencies.
  • Certificate III Correctional Practice or Full training will be provided to obtain this within the first year of employment.
  • Experience in managing low skilled workers in a production environment.
  • Extensive Metal work experience.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Serco’s values and the rehabilitation process.
  • Demonstrate a competent level of computer literacy.
  • Maintains high level of integrity and ethical behaviour.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Work Health & Safety requirements.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
