About the Opportunity

The key purpose of the Trade Instructor - Metal Fabrication role is to deliver and evaluate a range of trade training programs for inmates focussed on assisting inmates to integrate successfully into the community and gain post-release employment.

The role will contribute to embedding Serco’s key operating principles across the workshops.

  • Promoting the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates
  • Ensuring the safety and security of inmates and the community, and
  • Providing a decent and respectful environment to staff, inmates, and visitors

The industries team are also responsible for providing Prisoners with purposeful activity, including employment, career opportunities, vocational employment, and training. What you’ll be doing 
Oversee inmate activities to ensure productivity and commercial objectives are met, while also supervising behaviour and routines. Assist in inmate rehabilitation by encouraging program participation, overseeing work, preparing reports, managing inventory, conducting audits, and implementing training programs to meet inmates' needs within the workshops.

About you - your ideal skills & experience 

  • Metal Fabrication experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of Occupational Health & Safety requirements and its application within the context of a workshop and/or industry environment.
  • Cultural awareness including understanding the impact and management of different ethnic backgrounds, customers, and contemporary issues
  • Cert IV Engineering - Fabrication (Light) desirable
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment, or Full training will be provided to obtain Certificate IV in Training & Assessment accreditation to be completed within the first year of employment.
  • Certificate III Correctional Practice, or Full training will be provided to obtain Certificate III Correctional Practice accreditation to be completed within the first year of employment.

This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a Federal police check as an essential selection component for this role.
