Job description

Wood has an immediate requirement for an APAC Region Training & Competency Manager to join our Consulting Business Unit based in Perth CBD in Western Australia.  This position reports to the Global Director Digital Operations O&M and is an immediate requirement.

You will become part of a team focused on delivering solutions for our client’s assets across Australia and the wider APAC region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports the safe delivery of client projects across the region through the robust and proactive management of technical training and competence teams
  • Leads and manages a team of technical Training & competence advisors and assessors / verifiers
  • Directs and guides the growth, development and delivery performance of the Training & Competency team across the region, supporting the development of strategy and delivering related business plans. 
  • Provide client interfacing, working collaboratively with the Wood Growth & Development function in winning work and promoting Wood’s wider service lines.

Key Accountabilities include but not limited to;

  • Accountable for safety, technical and financial performance of the Training & Competency team across the region, assuming budgetary and P&L responsibility and demonstrating clear safety leadership; achieving monthly and annual targets and embedding company values
  • Responsible to the Global Director for the delivery of all Training and Competency projects across the region / business unit
  • Continuous improvement of Training & competence assurance systems and processes
  • Oversight of mandatory / minimum training compliance management, monitoring and reporting
  • Ownership of training and competence-related procedures and processes
  • Interface manager and contract owner for 3rd party training providers
  • Stays abreast of changes in relevant statutory / mandatory requirements and ensures internal processes remain compliant
  • P&L responsibility with associated commercial and financial accountability including revenue delivery, margin and overhead management, budget and forecast determination and attainment, risk and opportunity reviews, cost controls, accounts payable/billing and cash collection.
  • Deliver performance management objectives, agreed business plans, budget and targets and report on both opportunities and risks impacting on the business.
  • Line management for technical Training & competence team
    • Responsible for recruitment, performance development, pay reviews and all other general line management responsibilities for the team
    • Sets vision and direction for team and ensures they are working to agreed standards and procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Typically qualified to (Bachelors or equivalent) or has achieved a similar level of expertise through a combination of education and experience
  • Excellent understanding of the link between training, competence and safety with a relentless focus on driving achievement
  • Very good understanding of all technical disciplines within business area, typically gained through a minimum of 10+ years relevant experience  
  • At least 5 years’ experience managing teams, ideally over multi-geographic locations 
  • Experience in managing vendors and working with supply chain to achieve best value from procurement 
  • High level of IT literacy, especially Microsoft Office
  • Highly organised and able to juggle multiple priorities and work to short deadlines  
  • High integrity and pragmatism; able to balance need for procedural compliance with operational demands without exposing any employee to safety risks 
  • Excellent, clear communicator both verbally in writing 
  • Analytical and data-oriented with a drive for detail and accuracy
