CASUAL road transport and delivery work for reliable hard workers

Northampton Transport is seeking a Road Transport Crew Member to join our team for casual hours working on our delivery runs within Cairns and surrounds. Our delivery activities and clients include furniture retailers, property staging and event furniture hire businesses. 

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  • This role is physically demanding and would suit physically fit and healthy candidates, comfortable with lifting heaving items.
  • Reliability and Punctuality are critical to accepting employment with us. Although you will be a casual employee - we expect a commitment that if you accept a shift, you show up 
  • No driver license is mandatory, however an MR driver license (or above) will be looked upon favourably.

Your role as a Crew Member will be to work alongside the Driver / Leading Hand as a 2 to 3 person team. You will deliver general items and furniture to customers' homes, business premises and event venues in and around Cairns. You also may be responsible for the assembly and placement of the furniture at the delivery address. 

Customer service, professionalism and reliability are paramount to being successful in this role.

Shifts offered will be generally within Monday to Friday with some weekend and overtime work also being offered. 

Potential casual gross earnings per week are generally between $400 to $1500. We are also actively seeking suitable team members to advance into permanent part-time and full-time roles.

NOTE: This role is suited to applicants residing in and around CAIRNS

Your Role and Responsibilities will consist of:

  • Transport and handle general freight, and carton-packed furniture within Cairns and Surrounds
  • Assist with pre-inspection of goods at the collection point prior to loading, identifying damaged or faulty goods and notifying the client or your manager prior to departure.
  • Picking and Loading goods from our warehouse onto the truck
  • Unloading goods at the customer delivery address, carrying goods into position, unboxing and assembling (where required) of furniture
  • Ensuring goods are packed safely and protected from damage at all times during transport and storage
  • Maintaining a professional and friendly attitude with clients during deliveries (you are representing our client and our business!)
  • Maintaining a professional appearance in uniform at all times

Skills and Attributes you will possess:

  • Open Manual Drivers License (minimum driver qualification) OR MR License (not essential but favourable) - you will not be the regular driver, however, being able to step in and drive if occasionally required is a favourable attribute
  • Strong and fit, able to lift heavy items
  • General experience with furniture assembly and basic hand power tools
  • Punctual and Reliable
  • Flexible and accommodating with rostered shifts and working hours
  • Able to self-motivate and work effectively unsupervised
  • Place a high importance on customer service and satisfaction
  • Willing to go above and beyond to maintain our high standard of service

How the role is structured & remunerated

  • This is a casual role, potentially expanding into permanent part-time or full time.
  • Candidates who demonstrate exceptional reliability and work ethic will be held in high regard
  • The role will be paid at the relevant Road Transport Award with casual and other relevant loadings (where applicable)
  • Expected gross earnings per week are generally between $400 to $1500.
