Job description

Brisbane Arts Theatre is seeking enthusiastic and experienced Tutors to lead engaging and dynamic classes for our Teen Musical Theatre program. As a Tutor, you will play a vital role in implementing the curated curriculum, fostering a positive learning environment, and inspiring young participants to explore their creativity in the performing arts.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implement the curriculum for an assigned program, ensuring a structured and engaging learning experience.
  • Adapt weekly lesson plans that align with program goals and cater to different age groups or skill levels.
  • Lead classes in acting fundamentals, improvisation, character study, text analysis, and Musical Theatre.
  • Create a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages collaboration and creativity among participants.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support individual growth and development.
  • Effectively manage challenging behaviours from children in a positive and affirming way.
  • Utilise appropriate strategies to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Tailor instructional methods to accommodate diverse age groups and skill levels within the class.
  • Modify activities as needed to address the unique needs of participants.
  • Maintain open communication with the companies management, program coordinators, and other team members to ensure the smooth delivery of the curriculum.
  • Communicate effectively with parents or guardians, providing updates on participants' progress.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal training in the performing arts.
  • Possession of a current Blue Card is required for this position (or a willingness to obtain one before commencement).
  • Previous experience in teaching or tutoring in at least one of the following - acting, singing or dancing.
  • Strong knowledge of acting techniques, improvisation, character study, and Musical Theatre performance.
  • Experience and/or formal training in managing challenging behaviours from children in a positive and affirming way.
  • Ability to read sheet music and play basic piano is highly desirable (scales, play a line of a song for students to sing to)

All classes are held at the Lavalla Centre, 58 Fernberg Road, Paddington on Saturdays between 2pm and 4pm. Classes follow the Queensland School Terms with the first day of teaching being Saturday 13th July.
