One vacancy is available, working in Darwin and Palmerston.
To be part of the general surgical team providing a timely and high quality surgical service to the population of over 250,000 and visitors to the Top End.
Job Type
• Assess surgical patients referred from the Emergency Department and undertake consults for inpatients.
• Admit, manage and discharge patients from the service under the supervision of surgical consultants/fellows with the aim of providing the highest possible standards of care.
• Participate in operations under supervision of fellows/surgeons.
• Provide telephone advice to community clinics, GPs and peripheral hospitals.
• Participate in the 24 hour roster for the Surgical Department as required to ensure the proper functioning of the service.
• Provide supervision to junior medical staff and other clinical staff, including those in other Divisions as appropriate.
• Provide medico-legal and other reports under supervision as appropriate.
• Participate in research, educational and professional development.
• Initiate and participate in quality assurance activities, peer review practices and continuing Medical Education.
• Participate in other activities as directed by the Director of Surgical Services.
• Assist outreach services to Katherine and Gove hospitals.
• Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
