About This Opportunity
Springfield's collaboration with UQ stems from a pivotal aspiration – to achieve Net Zero Energy status by 2038, marking a pioneering move as the first city in Australia to articulate such an ambitious goal with a well-defined timeline.
The UQ-Springfield City Industry Chair in Energy (known locally as Professor/ Industry Professor in Energy) will be primarily responsible for developing and building relationships with both industry and community partners in Springfield. Whilst a research focused academic role, there will be a strong focus on engagement as well as innovative thinking to build creative energy based initiatives with industry and the Springfield group.
The Greater Springfield master planned environment involved establishing a unique ‘living laboratory’ harnessing the potential of Digital Twin Technology and creating a distinctive space for delving into the intricacies of energy generation, utilization, and community-level energy management. Springfield's collaboration with UQ stems from a pivotal aspiration – to achieve Net Zero Energy status by 2038, marking a pioneering move as the first city in Australia to articulate such an ambitious goal with a well-defined timeline. This vision, while inspiring, also presents formidable research challenges, particularly in the context of a city experiencing rapid growth.
The successful individual will lead a sustainable program of applied and translational engineering research in the application of big energy data and AI applied to Distributed Energy Resources Management and will provide senior leadership with a strategic vision for developing and implementing research strategies, building research capability and capacity, and demonstrating impact. The chosen candidate will also play a pivotal role in turning the proposal of the Living Laboratory into a tangible reality, making significant strides toward the development and implementation of the Laboratory in Springfield. You will have the exciting opportunity to recruit and build a team of research fellows and research higher degree students, as well as embed research within community energy generation, storage and usage management and contributing towards net zero goal.

About You
Along with completion of a PhD in a relevant disciplinary area or exceptional eminence and thought leadership in their field, evidenced by significant influence in the external sector, you will have:
Evidence of ability to successfully lead and work in teams (both industry and academia) undertaking collaborative, cross-disciplinary research at scale.
An established profile in electrical engineering or relevant discipline area (e.g. specifically research in smart energy management).
Outstanding impact and accomplishments in their field, resulting in wide-spread recognition as an industry or an academic expert.
Expertise in engineering in the energy industry, with the ability to transfer this into meaningful educational experience, research outputs, industry engagement and/or business development.
A track record of successful translational research involving substantial industry/government engagement and impact.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

What We Can Offer
This position is a full-time, fixed-term appointment at Research Academic Level E at The University of Queensland, for a period of five years with the potential to extend.
An attractive remuneration and strategic start up package will be negotiated with the successful candidate. The full-time equivalent Level E base salary will start from $200,200.63 plus super of up to 17%. The total FTE package will start from $234,234.74 per annum.
The University will meet all reasonable removal and establishment expenses. In the case of an interstate or international appointee, an accommodation allowance may be available for a limited period.
