Job Description
News Editors are an integral part of the Nine News production team. We are looking for candidates that want to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced workplace, who can work well in both a team environment and autonomously. The role collaborates with producers and reporters to create high-calibre content across multiple news programs. News Editors are creative, have excellent attention to detail and technical accuracy. News is a 24/7 business and candidates must be available to work a 7 day rotating roster. This role will be based in the office full time.
Day to day includes but won’t be limited to:
- Editing material for Nine News broadcasts, including voice overs, grabs, overlay, and news packages as directed by the News Edit Shift Leader.
- Occasionally edit feature-style packages for various news and current affairs programs, including online content.
- Occasionally engage in production editing for Today Show and Today Extra.
- Maintain availability for a 24/7 roster, accommodating early starts and late finishes.
- Compile vision for archive and ensure timely delivery of edited material.
- Promptly escalate potential technical issues to the Supervisor and/or engineering.
- Prioritise punctuality, attention to detail, and accuracy.
- Thrive in both quiet and busy periods, contributing to collaborative teamwork while working autonomously.
- Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, fostering positive relationships in a team environment.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in media, TV production, and/or communications.
- General knowledge of editing software, with a bonus for proficiency in AVID Media Composer.
- Strong technical knowledge of media file formats and compression codecs.
- Excellent positive attitude with a career-oriented mindset in television broadcasting.
- Dedication, professionalism, positivity, flexibility, and a proactive "can-do" attitude.
Desirable:
- Experience in a live television broadcast environment.
- Familiarity with computer networking and file-based delivery systems.
- Keen interest in news, sport, and current affairs.
