A vacancy exists in the above unit for 2 highly motivated Visiting Medical Officers (VMO) with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. Our progressive and innovative team offers development opportunities for our staff and a caring environment for the delivery of high-quality patient centred care. Locum positions will be offered for a period of up to 12 months. The date of commencement will be negotiated. Two such positions will be allocated concurrently.Duties include:
- Provision of clinical management, consultation, care of ambulatory patients, and treatment of patients in hospital and those presenting to the emergency department
- Performing microsurgery , maxillofacial surgery and a particular interest in head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction as well as general plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Elective and Emergency operating sessions primarily to public patients noting that the number of allocated sessions available may vary over time depending upon resources available, strategic priorities and clinical demand
- Management of elective waiting lists to ensure the numbers of elective waiting list patients do not exceed the National and State waiting time benchmarks or exceed the capacity of the contractually agreed theatre time availability to undertake the wait list cases, in accordance with NSW Health Policy
- Participation in out-of-hours on-call roster. The approximate rate of on-call is one in four
- Postgraduate and undergraduate teaching is expected

- Possess, or be eligible to possess, specialist registration with the Medical Board of Australia and obtain a provider number from Medicare to practice
- Possess Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Plastic Surgeons (FRACS) as provided for in the Health Insurance Act 1997.
- Considerable experience and expertise in microsurgery (including free flaps), particularly head and neck reconstruction, breast reconstruction, maxillofacial surgery and general plastic and reconstructive surgery in a teaching hospital environment
- Demonstrated leadership skills that support and foster innovation to create a learning culture, with proven ability to improve the quality of services and patient care outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality compassionate medical care as evidenced by recent practice experience in working congenially and collaboratively as both a leader and member of a multidisciplinary team, and as a provider of services that engender high levels of patient care
- Demonstrated ongoing contribution to the development, dissemination, and translation of new knowledge and practices commensurate with work in an academic teaching hospital environment
- Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission, and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries
