Where you'll be working
Kempsey maternity is a level 3 unit with over 100 years of service to Kempsey and the Macleay Valley. It is looking for suitably qualified and experienced GP Obstetricians to complement the current team.
Kempsey is located between the hills and the sea on the beautiful Macleay River. It is situated between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour and is close to many pristine beaches. There are several public and private local schools and has a population of around 28000. The maternity unit births approximately 250 a year.

What you'll be doing
Successful applicants will provide VMO (GP style) Obstetric and Gynaecological services to the Kempsey hospital in collaboration with existing multidisciplinary teams. The current model also has a successful candidate providing antenatal and postnatal services via one of several GP practices and /or within the hospital antenatal clinic service.

The candidate will need to participate in an on call roster with provision of emergency obstetric service within 20min. The candidate will also need to provide GP neonatal management. Kempsey hospital is serviced by GP Anaesthetist, FACEM’s and FRACP’s. The unit is well supported by Level 3 Neonatal Unit and Level 4 Maternity Unit service at Port Macquarie 45min away.

Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases
If you are applying for a Category A position, under the NSW Health Policy Directive PD2022_030, evidence of current immunity status that complies with the policy must be supplied.

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliancy
All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course (2 doses) of a Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine (except for the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine which is approved by the TGA as a single dose primary course). New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health or provide an Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW. A NSW Health agency may require further information about the medical contraindication (including but not limited to an Immunisation Medical Exemption form – IM011 form)​

​Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. 

Salary will be accordance with NSW Health State Awards for the advertised classification/s.  These awards are available at http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/careers/conditions/pages/default.aspx.

Selection Criteria

  1. Eligible for unconditional General or Specialist Registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and/or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine and/or vocational recognition as a General Practitioner.
  3. Hold DRANZCOG Adv or equivalent with demonstrated appropriate procedural skills in the delivery of General Practice Obstetrics in accordance with the role delineation of the service, including advanced neonatal resuscitation skills and care of the newborn.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  5. Demonstrated effective clinical communication through the use of information technology and written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, continuing education, research and quality improvement.
  7. Availability to participate in an on-call roster and to respond on site within a reasonable time (20 minutes)
  8. Hold a current unrestricted NSW Driver's License.
