Job description

What you'll be doing…

You will complete a Certificate III Waste Management  over 18 months through a combination of formal training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) and practical on-the-job experience with the Host Employer.

Throughout your formal training and practical experience in the workplace, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Report directly to the Waste Depot supervisor and participate in company meetings to identify safety related issues or operational improvements that can be implemented
  • Work within a team to undertake multiple waste collection, acceptance and recycling duties that compliment the Council's waste landfilling operations by diverting reusable or recyclable items from landfill 
  • Perform recycling operations in several ways from manual separation, to using mobile plant, to high tech fixed plant and sorting equipment
  • Complete duties within different operational areas such as: Garden organics & Bulky Waste pick-up, Buy-Back Centre, Weighbridge & Gatehouse and many more.
  • Operate earthmoving plant and heavy vehicles
  • Work in co-operation and collaboratively with all team members to achieve Council's waste operational goals

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have the following:

  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain high standards of work
  • Basic computer operational skills
  • Commitment to full term of the traineeship and study requirements
  • Demonstrate willingness to learn and develop new skills and knowledge
  • Ongoing commitment to safety, quality, and principles of continuous improvement
  • Ability to work without constant direct supervision and make sound decisions independently
  • Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Manual Drivers Licence (provisional accepted) 
  • WHS Construction Induction (White Card)
