Established in 1950, Geraldton Fishermen’s Co-operative is 100% owned by fishermen and license holders supplying the Co-operative and is operated for the benefit of members and the communities in which they operate.
GFC specialises in the processing and exporting of Western Rock Lobster. With approximately 70 percent of Western Australia’s commercial rock lobster catch flowing through its supply chain, GFC is the world’s largest rock lobster processor and is a significant contributor to the WA economy.
GFC supports fishermen, employees, licence holders, and their family members along a thousand kilometres of WA’s coastline.

Position Overview
The Junior Water Quality Technician will be responsible for maintaining the round-the-clock management of our recirculating seawater holding systems. By conducting water testing, system monitoring, and reporting results to management, you’ll contribute to the success of our operations.
Due to the continuous nature of this position, we are offering it on an 8 day on, 6 day off roster cycle comprised of both day shift and night shift.
Key Responsibilities
As a Junior Water Quality Technician, your duties will include (but are not limited to):
- Water Sampling and Analysis:
- Conduct hands-on water sampling and perform thorough analysis.
- Ensure accurate and reliable data collection.
- Reporting:
- Assisting the Senior Water Quality Technician with reporting.
- Assisting the Senior Water Quality Technician with reporting.
- System Parameter Corrections:
- Implement corrective actions under supervision.
- Physical System Monitoring:
- Assist with logging and tracking gauge readings.
- Assist with maintaining equipment functionality.
- Sensor and Control System Maintenance:
- Assist in the upkeep of online sensors and control systems.
- Data Integrity:
- Ensure timely input and maintain data integrity using our internal systems.
- Animal Husbandry Support:
- Assist the Senior Water Quality Technician with the well-being of our live lobsters.
Qualifications
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Tertiary qualifications in a scientific discipline or related discipline. (desirable)
- Hands-on experience in aquaculture, chemistry, lab-related or processing work environments.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- High-level analytical skills.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
