About the Role
The Structures Engineering Branch, who facilitates the management of the State’s bridge assets, is looking for an engineer who is skilled and experienced in waterways technical services to join the team as the Waterways Engineer.
The key deliveries and responsibilities of this role include managing and undertaking hydrological and hydraulic analyses of waterways assets (which includes bridges, culverts, and floodways) and maintaining waterways corporate standards, guideline manuals, specifications, and records. Other key deliverables include preparing design briefs, collecting, and collating flood data, undertaking research in relevant fields, and contributing to the branch business plan.
About You
To be successful in this role it is essential that you have substantial experience and knowledge in the waterways analysis and design of bridges, culverts, and floodways, as well as knowledge of guidelines and regulatory compliance requirements.
In addition to your technical skills and experience, the branch is seeking an individual who aligns with Main Roads values, has effective communication skills and who can build and maintain positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.

Your substantial skill, knowledge, and experience in:
  • Rural and urban catchment analysis and flood estimation methods and techniques, including hydrological run-off routing methods.
  • Hydraulic design of bridges, culverts, floodways and open channels using 1-dimensional and 2-dimensional hydraulic computer modelling programs.
Your knowledge of:
  • Current standards, guidelines and federal and state regulatory compliance requirements in waterways design.
