TitleWelfare Worker - Residential Units (Drug Health Services)SummaryAn exciting opportunity exists at Western Health Drug Health Services for Welfare Workers. This position will be primarily based at Westside Lodge Dual Diagnosis Rehabilitation Centre, however the DHS Residential UnitsWelfare Worker will also be required to support the DHS Withdrawal Units as required.The Welfare worker is an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, providing both 1:1 and group interventions and support. The Welfare Worker will facilitate support to individuals who reside in Westside Lodge, including taking on outings, supporting through therapeutic groups, supporting clients in reviews with consultants and facilitate recovery through the provision of client-centred and non-judgemental support and case management.About the Position
  • Within a supportive and therapeutic framework, provide feedback to consumers on their behaviours, and, where required, outline problematic behaviour/develop an agreed on plan of action with the client
  • Contribute to development and/or implementation of individual treatment plans (ITPs) and review and adjust ITPs to support clients to achieve their treatment goals
  • Support the delivery of high quality and evidence-based interventions in line with Western Health's Values and Best Care framework
About YouAs an experienced Welfare Worker, you will have:
  • Previous experience in a similar role and/or working with those who have AOD, mental health and medical complexity
  • A passion for providing safe and modern care to clients with substance use issues
  • sound knowledge and understanding of treatment options for clients presenting with AOD, mental health and medical complexity
  • High levels of organisation, collaboration, adaptability and communication

Selection Criteria Essential: Qualifications in a relevant discipline
Essential: Minimum qualifications to Certificate IV level in Drug and Alcohol and/or Mental Health, or willingness to work towards the same or equivalent
Essential: Demonstrated experience working with clients with AOD use, mental health issues and complex comorbidities
Essential: Demonstrated capacity to manage and problem solve in crisis situations
Essential: Excellent interpersonal, communication, conflict resolution and negotiation skills
Essential: Demonstrate positive workplace behaviours
Essential: Basic computer literacy skills
Desirable: Experience in the provision of services to individuals and groups affected by substance use and associated comorbidities
Desirable: Knowledge of the biological and social effects of drug use and its impact on family/significant others and community
Desirable: Understanding of and commitment to the principles and practises of harm minimisation in the drug and alcohol field
Desirable: Current driver's licence
