Job description

We are looking to appoint an experienced WHSE Manager to join our team, based in Yatala. This busy and diverse role will see you responsible for the effective management of all activities related to the health, safety and environment across our QLD division.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the QLD safety team
  • Implement and ensure compliance with policy and procedures through all levels of the business & escalate issues to the management team for correction
  • Effectively communicate, consult, and assist stakeholders in achieving WHSE performance throughout Colas QLD
  • Provide technical support and advice to the State Manager, Senior Management, Operations, and other internal and external stakeholders on a wide range of WHSE matters
  • Implement and maintain IBMS with sites in conjunction with managers, supervisors, and the Group WHSE
  • Undertake comprehensive audits of WHSE to confirm compliance with IBMS, OFSC, contractual and other legislative requirements
  • Maintain third party certifications and Office of Federal Safety Commissioners Accreditation
  • Monitor changes to WHSE legislation and applicable standards to ensure compliance within the workplace
  • Audit Colas QLD Depots, Asphalt Plants, and contracting operations throughout QLD
  • Coordinate WHSE reporting in accordance with the audit schedule so that statutory requirements, regulatory instruments, and company internal reporting obligations are met
  • Report on compliance with WHSE management plans, legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Monitor to ensure audit recommendations / actions are implemented
  • Gain necessary WHSE approvals and permits required for contracting operations
  • Ensure relevant WHSE training is provided to COLAS QLD personnel and training records are maintained
  • Investigate incidents / accidents and prepare finalised reports for management to sign off on
  • Liaise with customer WHSE personnel for the provision of information as required by contractual requirements
  • Review, maintain and develop WHSE policies, procedures, and systems
  • Other duties as required

The Ideal Candidate will possess the following:

Qualifications & Licences:

  • Diploma level qualifications in WHS
  • Certificate or diploma in Environmental
  • Investigators Qualification (ICAM)
  • Certificate 4 in Training and Assessment
  • Management System Auditor Qualifications
  • General Construction Industry Induction Card (CPCCOHS1001A Occupational Health & Safety Construction Induction Card)
  • Driver’s licence

Work Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in similar role.
  • Experience in the Civil or mining industry
  • Experience in the road surfacing industry – highly regarded

Skills: 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability to develop effective working relationships at all levels
  • Good people skills
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise competing deadlines
  • Effective report writing and research skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WHS legislation and ability to interpret and apply legislation, codes of practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant WHS, Environmental and Quality Standards
