  • Full time Fixed Term (12 Months) role, utilising project management experience

What will you be doing?

Leading the development of Integrated Water Servicing to meet customers and stakeholders expectations. Sydney Water aims to deliver the most innovative and sustainable water servicing for Western Sydney to provide outcomes for customers and community. The Western Sydney Development team is providing an integrated water approach and this role is focussed on the successful deployment of Stormwater Schemes in the Aerotropolis as the Regional Stormwater Authority. This position leads and directs other team members in the service planning to identify the location and detail of assets for the conveyance, treatment, storage and harvesting of urban runoff. This is often undertaken under significant development timeframe pressure. Importantly, stormwater assets must protect and retain natural ecosystem processes and recognise country. This role is for an industry leader in harvested stormwater and recycled water systems. It requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders, local and state government agencies and private sector clients (especially the development industry).

Your role will involve:

Lead team members in the assessment of stormwater aspects within relevant development applications and provide timely feedback to internal and external stakeholders

Be an active participant and technical advisor to Sydney Water’s role in the development of Stormwater Schemes for the Aerotropolis Precincts

Provide technical expert advice to the Wianamatta Program Manager regarding the progress of stormwater planning and integration with recycled water distribution network.

Provide advice and support to the Major Project Group on compile information for the INSW business case process.

Co-ordinate and run appropriate stakeholder workshops and meetings to meet project objectives.

Work with council partners at Liverpool and Penrith as well as developers to clarify timing and deployment of key drainage infrastructure.

Advise and direct consultants and other team members appropriately to complete milestones on-time and to budget.

Understand and demonstrate the importance of strategic relationships and position Sydney Water positively in identifying stormwater servicing solutions for developers and the local councils.

Understand the role of Sydney Water in providing transparency and equity as the Regional Stormwater Authority and ensure planning is undertaken in line with the Stormwater Scheme Principles.

Understand and champion the emerging “Healthy Waterways and Environment Strategic Blueprint” and articulate how current activities in urban catchments align and progress strategy documents.

Empower, equip others and participate in team development, planning and coordination activities to enable the team to work effectively together.

Prioritise time for growth as a leader and encourage recognition, feedback, respect and honesty.

Exercise astute judgement in managing confidential and sensitive information that has the potential to impact on organisational performance and reputation or is commercial in confidence.

Guiding a small team (up to 4) of technical stormwater professionals.

Department Overview:

The Western Sydney Development is a small team of about 25 people in the Business Development division of Sydney Water. It works on strategy and implementation of integrated water cycle outcomes for the western Sydney Area

Who are we looking for?

Recognised leader in technical stormwater planning and influencer of industry issues, integrated water management, urban waterway health or water sensitive city concepts with relevant research and best practice experience.

Experience leading a team and ability to build a positive and outcome focused team culture. Ability to inspire the best from others and progress self-reflection on the development of a personal leadership style.

Skills in GIS, 12D, MUSIC, CAD

Experience with greenfield development industry and processes.

Ability to provide intelligent and innovative guidance regarding the current policy, regulation and standards for urban stormwater.

Experience working with first nations people and ability to demonstrate culturally sympathetic outcomes that consider the Aboriginal community’s perspective.

Demonstrated organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities to meet tight deadlines.

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others, including managing consultants and contractors to undertake various components of a complex project.

Be a role model for demonstrating collaboration, have discernment and be able to read the room to be responsible to stakeholder concerns.

Degree in one of the following subject areas: Engineering, Natural Resource Management, Environmental or Social Science, Urban Planning or a related field.
