Job description

The Wine Maker is responsible for managing the wine-making process, from grape harvest to bottling, to create high-quality and distinctive wines. They will use their knowledge of viticulture and oenology to supervise grape selection, fermentation, aging, blending, and quality control in Sydney.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the wine-making process, from grape selection to bottling, to ensure high-quality and distinctive wines.
  • Supervise grape harvest and determine the best time for picking.
  • Monitor and control fermentation and aging processes, including temperature, pH, and alcohol content.
  • Conduct sensory evaluations to determine wine quality and adjust production accordingly.
  • Create and maintain wine production records and quality control documentation.
  • Supervise the blending process to create consistent wine profiles.
  • Order and maintain inventory of equipment, supplies, and wine-making ingredients.
  • Collaborate with other professionals such as vineyard managers and marketing specialists to develop new wine products and improve existing ones.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment in compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations.
  • Participate in wine tastings and wine education events.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Viticulture, Oenology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in wine-making or a related field.
  • Knowledge of viticulture, oenology, and wine production techniques.
  • Strong sensory evaluation skills and ability to identify flavor and aroma characteristics.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in a standing position for extended periods.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.

Work Environment:

The Wine Maker will work in a winery or vineyard environment. They may be exposed to harsh weather conditions and may be required to work long hours during the grape harvest season.
