Job description

The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush.We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia's history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life. They are supported by over 250 volunteers.About the roleDuring June and July, Sovereign Hill hosts Winter Wonderlights - where the Museum is open later into the evening and magical light displays project onto the facade of the Victorian style buildings within the township. The Photographer is responsible for engaging and assisting visitors with enquiries, taking costumed photos of our visitors in a studio or outdoor setting, purchasing decisions and processing sales transactions across the retail outlets both internal and external to the Museum. The successful applicant will use digital photography to take appropriate individual and group photos and perform basic editing of photographs. Customer assistance will need to be provided in assisting visitors with transactions and meeting their needs.This role will ideally suit applicants with the following competencies:

  • Experience within a customer service or retail environment
  • Experience using digital photography and software packages
  • Excellent customer service skills, with an outgoing personality
  • Excellent cash handling and point of sale skills
  • Ability to work across flexible rosters including weekends, public holidays and school holidays
