Qualifications & experience
- Proven experience as a WordPress developer (3+ years), with very strong knowledge of Wordpress development (front & back-end), custom theme development, plugin creation, MYSQL and database optimisation techniques.
- Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, Vue.JS, and RESTful APIs. As well as version control using GitHub / BitBucket and back-ups.
- Management of web hosting environments: Cloud Flare, DNS management, domain registry services, AWS SES, Route 53, S3 management, Cloudfront, and WPEngine. With some understanding of apache and nginx server set-up.
- Understands different browsers and can conduct testing, optimising and debugging.
- Understand website performance monitoring and how to optimise for improvement (accessibility guidelines, mobile, SEO, Google PageSpeed Insights, Lighthouse and GTmetrix).
- Ability to custom built email templates (Campaign Monitor and Klaviyo).
- Good communication skills (written and verbal), able to explain and present concepts to different audiences (including clients).
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously. With excellent problem-solving skills, quality control and attention to detail.
- You must be an Australian citizen to apply for this role AND you must be located within Australia.
- Nice to have Other Skills (but not essential): Shopify, Drupal, and Optimizely.
Tasks & responsibilities
- Develop, troubleshoot and maintain our clients’ WordPress websites (mixture of B2C, B2B and Govt sites) and integrations. Ensure that websites are fully responsive, provide a consistent user experience across all devices and browsers, have high performance, and where required meet WCAG standards.
- Customise existing themes to meet client requirements based on designs provided. Design and develop custom themes or functionality. Research, recommend and integrate plugins to extend the functionality of our WordPress websites.
- Manage and back-up hosting environments on WPEngine. Manage the migration of websites from other hosting providers to WPEngine, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity. Manage DNS configurations for websites, emails and other platforms.
- Set up, configure and maintain Google Analytics (eg: custom events), Google Tag Manager (eg: custom tags), and other tracking tools to monitor website performance and generate reports for clients. Implement on-page SEO best practices to enhance site visibility and search engine ranking.
- Help to monitor and conduct website performance, SEO, security, content, accessibility, technical, and useability audits; providing reporting and recommendations for continuous improvement of site performance and functionality.
- Implement and maintain security measures to protect websites from threats, including setting up firewalls, malware scanning, and SSL certificates.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and best practices in web development.
- Work with other stakeholders: client service, strategists, designers, producers, and other developers to deliver high-quality projects on time.
