The Opportunity

Reporting to the Work Health Safety Manager the purpose of the role is primarily focused on claims and injury management and to work in conjunction with the Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager to assist the thoroughbred trainers in the management of their workers' compensation claims and return to work. The role will incorporate injury management, claims management and consultation and education across Queensland's thoroughbred training industry.

  • Experience and/or ability to provide administration support with limited supervision.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take ownership for own behaviour and work autonomously as well as being a team player to consistently meet performance expectations.

What you will do, day to day

  • Co-ordination and provide advice on WorkCover claims, including return to work programs, early intervention strategies and injury management in conjunction with WorkCover Queensland.
  • A close working arrangement with WorkCover Queensland and Queensland thoroughbred Trainers to achieved improved claims management, return to work outcomes and appropriate insurance placement and renewals occur across the thoroughbred training racing industry.
  • Ensuring claims management and return to work programs, processes, record keeping, and reporting are compliant with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Coordination and oversight of workers' compensation claims costs, lost workdays and claim durations through effective claims investigations and case management to assist with controlling premiums.
  • Assisting with the development, coordination and advice on effective workers' compensation, injury management and return to work processes.
  • Developing and promoting data collection initiatives across the industry to ensure greater understanding of risk and controls to improve industry Health, Safety, Welfare.
  • Reporting on lost time and duration of workers' compensation claims and broader thoroughbred industry injury and incident statistics.
  • Leading and actively promoting health and safety across the racing industry.
