Workforce Consultant

Northern Territory PHN leads the development and coordination of an equitable, comprehensive primary health care system and an engaged health workforce driven by community needs.

Salary: $99 357 + Super

Benefits: Generous salary packaging, six weeks annual leave and flexible working arrangements

About the role

The purpose of this role is to lead initiatives that address health workforce and service delivery needs in the NT primary health care sector. In partnership with client health services and key stakeholders, the Workforce Consultant is focused on driving strategic projects and initiatives to address key challenges that affect the quality, availability and sustainability of the primary health care workforce.

Through strategic partnerships and innovative initiatives, the Workforce Consultant leads processes to attract, recruit and retain a skilled and engaged health workforce in the Northern Territory. The position is also responsible for tailoring workforce programs to meet individual health professional and health service needs. This includes integrating workforce management into other workforce programs, including grants, incentives, future workforce and education programs to ensure the NT has a stable and sustainable primary health care workforce.

Each of the Workforce Consultants report to the Workforce Engagement Team Lead and will work primarily across a key area of focus: medical, nursing or allied health. The portfolio of the Workforce Consultant may change based on business needs.

If you have the following skills and experience, we'd love to chat:

  • Developing collaborative partnerships with client health services to deliver quality workforce planning and support activities. These include (but are not limited to): post-placement support, clinical/ cultural orientation, and retention activities.
  • Utilising relationship management and stakeholder engagement principles, represent NT PHN/ Rural Workforce Agency (RWA) NT across the NT primary and allied health sectors to ensure programs and services are visible and accessible to all health services, health professionals and key stakeholders and tailor supports to meet the needs of individual health professionals and health services.
  • Managing projects and initiatives within their area of focus to achieve health workforce objectives. Projects may include the development of supported career pathways, retention strategies and innovative workforce models such as locum or outreach programs.
  • Adopting and fostering a strategic approach to address health workforce needs in the NT, through representing NT PHN in partnership and collaboration with peak bodies, training organisations and other key stakeholders including participation in relevant working groups and forums
  • Supporting the workforce strategy function in undertaking workforce needs assessment activity and actively participating/leading in the design and delivery of projects to address needs
  • Training and mentoring of program support staff including capacity building, performance appraisal and compliance with NT PHN's policies and procedures. This may include line­ management of workforce support staff to ensure appropriate administrative and logistical support is provided to workforce programs.
  • Application of a comprehensive case management framework for health professionals and health services
  • Ensure data quality and integrity through effective system management and contributing to system development as appropriate
  • Demonstrated experience in contributing to continuous quality improvement and working as part of a high-functioning team
