Youth Access Worker

  • Full-time Max-term contract until 30/06/2026
  • Location: headspace Kempsey

headspace Kempsey is operated by Samaritans Foundation and part of a national initiative to deliver improvements in the mental health, social wellbeing and economic participation of young people aged 12-25. 

About the opportunity

The Youth Access Clinician will work within a multidisciplinary team, providing initial intake and assessment of young people and co-ordinate with young people accessing treatment and support and provide assistance with therapeutic and skill based group work. As a Youth Access Clinician you will also develop and maintain appropriate referral pathways and work with other services in the local service system to support young people.

Essential Criteria

  • Tertiary qualification certificate IV or above in Youth Work, Community Services, Mental Health, Counselling (Graduating students are eligible to apply).
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental health issues affecting young people and their families and carers and support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work holistically with young people with mental health and drug and alcohol issues including indigenous, refugee, CALD and low socio-economic background.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental health assessments, referrals, and co-ordination of care for young people at risk of mental health and drug and alcohol issues
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain linkages and networks with a range of government, community and corporate stakeholders to facilitate clear referral pathways.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively engage with young people, families and carers who are at risk of mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of computer applications for record keeping and accessing of information. Ability to maintain comprehensive and professional client information, and complete data collation.

The successful applicant will possess or willingness to obtain the following: NSW Working With Children Check, Criminal History Check, First aid & CPR certificate, and undertake a pre-employment functional medical.
