Job description

The demand management project is designed to reduce wait times and manage demand for young people in the Tamworth and New England Northwest region and enhance the responsiveness of headspace services; therefore, increasing the opportunity for young people to receive timely treatment, reduce the exacerbation of mental illness severity and shorten the length of treatment time needed to help in recovery. The Youth Assessment Worker (YAW) facilitates brief intake, assessment, brief interventions and case management through the Brief Assessment Clinic (BAC).

Remuneration

This position operates under the Social, Community, Home Care & Disability Award 2010 on a level 4 ($41.52/hr)

About The Role 

Working as part of our team some key responsibilities include but is not limited to:

  • Initial contact with headspace referrals to provide information of the service and conduct brief intake appointment.
  • Providing brief intakes, which include – discussing clients rights and responsibilities, gaining informed consent, identifying presenting problems, conducting a risk assessment, and a brief intake assessment.
  • Support use of Staging Model, Single Session Therapy and Family Inclusive Practice Frameworks.
  • Support hMIF (headspace Model Integrity Framework) quality processes.
  • Provide holistic care for young people including referrals when headspace may not be appropriate, for example, internal referrals to other Centacare programs, nurse, dietitian or GP, and external referrals to local services that would be of assistance to the young person.
  • Match a young person’s age and stage of psychological and biological development taking into account their psycho-social circumstances, risk and protective factors, personal goals and preferences.
  • Deliver evidence based treatments based on headspace demand management services.

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum diploma level qualification in Mental Health or Allied Health discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with young people and within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability or understanding of conducting brief intakes with young people.
  • Experience, or willingness to learn, to develop and deliver group programs.
  • Knowledge of mental health as it relates to young people - the clinical presentations, and its stressors and triggers.
  • Understanding of clinical risk and other risk factors in mental health relating to young people.
