About the role:

Are you passionate about supporting young people to become who they have every right to be?

Aurora Education Foundation supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across our High School Program. As Mentor, your role will be to assist and occasionally lead a range of activities related to developing students’ confidence, increasing their resilience and raising their expectations by drawing on your own experience in high school and university and working to act as a positive role model for students.

Responsibilities:

* Attend pre-engagement curriculum development workshops

* Attend Pre-engagement briefings

* Participate in engagement debriefs

* Stay on-site for the duration of HSP camps (facilities and meals included)

* Develop, prepare and / or deliver lessons and workshops during engagements, with the support of Aurora staff

* Share knowledge of culture and cultural protocols as appropriate during engagements

* Attend either residential academic camps per year, online workshops or three one day activities across three clusters; Cluster 1: Metro Perth Cluster 2: South Western Australia, includes Busselton and Bunbury

* Engagement in relevant and purposeful professional development workshops and networking events

About you:

• Passionate about supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people

• Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, organisations, histories, and the strengths and issues facing Indigenous people in Australia in meeting their aspirations

• Availability to attend compulsory training and curriculum development workshops before camps or other activities

• Ability to commit for up to 30 days per academic year

• Ability to work and engage with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, Elders and other stakeholders

• A willingness to work as part of a team to achieve Program outcomes

• Willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check and National Criminal Record Check – Aurora covers the cost.

• A current First Aid Certificate and Youth Mental Health First Aid is desirable but not essential

• Progression towards a vocational qualification or tertiary qualification is desirable but not essential.
