  • Full time, fixed term (12 Months) 76 hours per fortnight located in Karratha.

HOPE has been a community service in Western Australia for over a century, providing much needed support to people affected by alcohol and other drugs, mental ill-health, Youth Justice issues and socioeconomic disadvantage. 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Justice Manager to join the Pilbara/Kimberley team! The position is full time, working Monday to Friday.

About the Opportunity 

The purpose of the Pilbara/Kimberley YJ Manager role is to lead, develop, implement, oversee, and manage the operations, and the future growth and development of the Pilbara/Kimberley YJ services. The incumbent will build and maintain strong working relationships with Youth Justice Services and work closely, collaborating with a range of stakeholders to ensure all activities are in accordance with the service agreements. The role will be supported by the General Manager for Pilbara/Kimberley.

Requirements of the Role: 

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Pilbara/Kimberley Regions YJS Bail and Community Mentoring Services in Karratha, Kununurra, Port Hedland and Broome.
  • Lead and oversee the recruitment of new staff, working with People and Culture and Justice Manager to ensure that new employees are orientated to the procedures and operations of the service.
  • Manage and supervise staff, monitor staff performance and development, and address staff performance issues effectively according to documented policies and procedures.
  • Shape and structure a working environment that is conducive to high productivity, where all staff understand what is expected of them and how their efforts contribute to organisational success.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., private practitioners, health, employment, and other community, state and federal government agencies) and work collaboratively to deliver alcohol and other drug, health, mental health and to young people. Lead and supervise the Pilbara/Kimberley Regional team to deliver the outcomes of the Region’s Management Plan.

About you

  • Relevant degree or post graduate degree with relevant experience; or associate diploma with substantial experience (e.g., 5-7 years); or qualifications in more than one discipline, or equivalent level of expertise and experience attained through previous appointments, service, and/or study (e.g., 7-9 years). Relevant, e.g., Social Work, Psychology, Health, Education, Social Science, Youth Work, Mental Health Nursing, or Behavioural/Social Sciences.
  • Demonstrated experience at managing and reporting on operational systems for a health or community services organisation, including effectively planning and allocating resources to maximise operational efficiency and meet funding deliverables.
  • Demonstrated experience at managing all aspects of staff and team performance, including recruitment, staff orientation, line management supervision, staff disciplinary action, performance development and reviews, and team building.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a diverse range of people and professionals and manage difficult situations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of accountability systems and continuous quality improvement processes, including the utilisation of data systems, the development and implementation of policies and procedures, and the use of evaluation and risk management tools.

Desirable Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with young people.
  • Experience in service provision in the Youth Justice Services, Alcohol and Other Drug and Mental Health sector.
  • A broad understanding of the challenges and experiences of people in regional Australia. Current knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunity in all aspects of employment and service delivery.

Appointments will be subject to Australian residency/visa, satisfactory National Police check (within 3 months), Working With Children card, Current C or A class driver's license, First Aid Certificate, and suitable work referees.

NOTE: in addition to the above, a Department of Justice clearance is required. We assist you with obtaining the clearance but may take up to 6 weeks to obtain.
