CORE Community Services Ltd. is a not for profit organisation serving South West Sydney for over 40 years. We provide a wide range of services, activities and programs across 5 Services – Children's Services, Youth Services, Multicultural Communities, Aged and Disability Care (ADC) and Community Engagement.. Our mission is to provide tailored diverse client centric services and opportunities that support and empower vulnerable communities to thrive, resulting in the best outcomes for all individuals.
This program is to help young people of refugee, migrants and humanitarian entrants’ backgrounds residing in and around Fairfield LGA including those who are risk of disengaging with education system, social and civic participation. To achieve this goal, a range of strategies and activities including but not limited to collaboration with justice, Police and correctional agencies, sports, employment, training, and educational institutions designed to promote their full potentials will be implemented.
Provision of casework, facilitation of group work and community development activities to SETS eligible young people to improve self-esteem, self-advocacy and build social and family networks, foster independence to maintain quality and balanced life, facilitate referral pathways to internal and external support services including monitoring and reporting progress.
Collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to maximise effective service delivery for young people.
Responsibilities Include:
- Undertake comprehensive client assessment through case work to identify and prioritise their needs.
- Undertake promotional activities to increase awareness of SETS-Youth Settlement program through brochure/pamphlets, local media, social media, interagency meetings, and community events.
- Develop strategies and structures to address young person’s needs in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Consult and co-design programs with young people to increase genuine participation.
- Through advocacy and collaboration, support young people identified with LGBTQI+ community to address their needs in safe, supporting, and non-judgmental manner.
- Develop strategies to ensure the safety of young people and appropriate action where safety risk is identified in accordance with the NSW Child Protection Legislation and internal policies.
- Knowledge and awareness of the Australian Education and Legal System and promote education and employment opportunities by collaborating with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
- Initiate sporting and recreational opportunities for SETS eligible clients.
- Engage young people in a non-threatening environment to increase awareness of the Australian legal and policing systems through collaboration with relevant specialist stakeholders.
- Develop the capacity of newly arrived young people to become their own advocate and champions.
- Contribute to Local, Regional, State and National government planning/policy frameworks.
- Ensure confidentiality and privacy of client’s information.
- Maintenance of up-to-date client records and case notes through internal database system
- Ensure accountability requirements to CORE Board and funding body are met including workplan development and reporting on workplan achievements.
Selection Criteria:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Community Services and similar human service fields with a minimum of Diploma level.
- Demonstrate understanding of young people’s needs, experience working with young people 12 to 25 years from refugee, migrant and humanitarian entrant’s background.
- Demonstrated experience in working with schools, government, and non-government organisations.
- An understanding of child protection issues and relevant legislation/s.
- Demonstrate awareness and humility to various cultures and practices.
- Demonstrate experience in case work, referral, networking.
- Highly developed interpersonal & client focus skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
- The ability to prioritise work and make decisions regarding the day-to-day issues and as directed.
- Intermediate administrative and computer knowledge and skills across a range of applications including database application and communication technologies.

- Current NSW Driver’s License
