 Y Housing Youth Support Worker (Crisis Refuge Full Time)

Project Youth, established over 30 years ago, is a Non-Government, not for profit organisation based in South Eastern Sydney, providing support and assistance to young people who are homeless or facing disadvantage. Project Youth's vision is to create a future where all young people can thrive regardless of the disadvantage they face. To do this Project Youth provides trauma-informed support for young people aged 12-24 who have complex needs, are at risk, come from disadvantaged backgrounds and may not be able to fulfil their potential without additional support.

Our work is in three main areas:

  1. Homelessness and Housing: Accommodating young people in crisis and supporting transition into independent living or returning to their family home
  2. Early Intervention: Intervening early to reduce and stop escalation of issues
  3. Education, Employment and Training: Providing pathways to employment and education

We have a very exciting role for a passionate and committed person who would love to work as part of a dedicated team of professionals and assist young people to be housed safely while working on their goals in one of our crisis refuges.

The Role:

The role is part time -  average 12 hours per week over a 2 week rotating  24 hour roster including overnight, weekend shifts and public holidays. This role falls under Project Youth’s Lone Worker Policy, as only one staff member is rostered at a time.

It is paid at SCHADS award level 4 plus salary sacrifice.   

You will be required to work closely with the Practice lead and small refuge team, conduct trauma informed support planning with young people in crisis situations, manage house dynamics, supervise daily activities, contribute to the overall running of the house and to generally assist young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through broad and flexible service models.

Selection criteria:

Academic Qualifications and Licences 

  • Qualifications in Youth Work, Social Science, Humanities or other relevant disciplines.

Essential 

  • Experience in youth service delivery and understanding of youth social issues
  • Demonstrated skills in support planning with young people, including outcomes-based goal setting
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team as well as individually
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Proven ability to build rapport and trust with young people whilst maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Proven ability to work with a diverse range of young people
  • Proven ability in taking referrals and conducting assessments based on individual needs
  • Critical thinking skills 
  • Understanding of WHS requirements
  • High level of written and oral communication 
  • Computer literacy
  • Understanding of trauma informed practice and a person-centred approach
  • Drivers licence and own vehicle
  • Current Working with Children's Check 
  • Current National Police Check
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccination

Desirable

  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Experience working in a residential setting 
  • Experience in preparing support notes into a client database
