We do this by delivering a range of family violence programs to break the cycle of inter-generational trauma in Aboriginal families and communities.

Program description and Role Key Responsibilities
Bramung Jaarn provides high quality, culturally safe, early intervention and diversion activities to young Aboriginal people aged 10-17 years and their families in the southern east & northern region of Melbourne Metropolitan.
Activities include group programs, engagement events and individual support for young people at risk of becoming involved in the Youth Justice system, aligned to Dardi’s values (Diversity - Accountability – Respect – Determination – Inspire). Supported by female and male Elders to strengthen cultural support and connection for young people, staffed by a gender inclusive team of Youth Workers, all activities aim to build resilience, knowledge, and capacity across 10 domains:
- Culture (Country, Community, Identity)
- Physical and Mental Health
- AOD
- Communication and connection
- Respect and healthy relationships’
- Education and re-engagement
- Physical activities and Therapeutic exercises
- Goal-setting
- Life skills
- Support for family members.
- Peer mentoring
The key responsibilities of the Youth Worker are:
- Collaborating with other Youth Workers and the Youth Services Manager develop and deliver of weekly group programs, including promotion, registration, delivery, review and evaluation.
- Collaborating with other Youth Workers and the Youth Services Manager develop and deliver at least 1 statewide camp in partnership with other First Nations Youth Services and 2 in-house camps on Country each year.
- Collaborating with other Youth Workers and the Youth Services Manager deliver high-quality individual supports for young people at risk of becoming involved in the Youth Justice system, including intake, assessment, case planning, case work, case review and exit planning that respond to the needs, aspirations and risks of the young people.
- Meet with the Youth Services Manager in individual supervision and participate in team processes to support practice development and promote effective services for young people and their families, and sound assessment and responses to risk and child safety issues.
- Support the Youth Services Manager to develop and maintain of community engagement, referral networks and program access pathways with key stakeholders (e.g., Local Aboriginal Community, police, courts, child protection, youth justice, legal services, family services, schools, education/skills providers, employment, health services, recreational groups, etc.)
- Support collaboration with other services and programs (e.g., Legal, Mental Health, Sexual health, LGBTQIA+, Sports and Creative Arts) that maximise access opportunities for young people who attend the Dardi Youth, including through presence at Bramung Jaarn and co-delivery of group programs.
- Contribute to support of volunteers (mentors, people with lived experience) to participate in Bramung Jaarn programs, consistent with Dardi Policy, including Child Safety and Privacy and Confidentiality.
- With support from the Youth Services Manager, contribute to management and documenting of critical incidents in accordance with Dardi Munwurro policy and procedures.
- Contribute to collating information for program evaluation, reporting and funding acquittals.
- Contribute to a review and development of youth service activities and practice processes.
- Model appropriate behaviour and facilitate positive communication between young people.
Key Organisational Accountabilities
- Adhere to the Dardi Munwurro Code of Conduct and Policy and Procedures at all times
- Participation in all induction and onboarding activities and required training, including First Aid, Child Safety and MARAM
- Support and participate in Dardi Munwurro’s strategic planning.
- Ensure appropriate use of resources
- Participate in debriefing and supervision support in accordance with Dardi Policy
- Demonstrated commitment to community participation and ongoing engagement with clients
- Carry out duties in a manner that does not negatively affect yours and the individual’s own safety or others by following the agreed procedures, reporting all incidents, injuries, near misses, as well as cooperating with any measures introduced in the workplace to improve Work Health & Safety
- Participate in the revision of organisational policies and procedures
- Participate in Dardi Munwurro meetings, training and professional development as required
- While at work, comply with requirements as noted in the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004
- Meet all the legislative requirements related to the position, including privacy requirements
Key Selection Criteria - Qualifications, skills and essential competencies
The successful candidates will require:
- Demonstrated experience delivering group activities, events and individual case work to young people in the context of competing demands.
- Relevant qualifications in Youth Work, Social Work, Alcohol and Drugs, Community Services, or other health related qualifications (e.g., Family Studies) and/or extensive experience in the field.
- Demonstrated experience in working with at risk Aboriginal young people and their families.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage effective relationships with diverse stakeholders including Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal organisations, Police, health, mental health and AOD services providers, child and family services.
- Excellent time management, work planning and reporting skills.
- Ability to provide trauma-informed and culturally safe support to young people and their families.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the service system and resources available to support young people with complex needs.
- Commitment to role-modelling Dardi Munwurro’s values of Diversity, Accountability, Respect, Determination and Integrity.
- Current Victorian Drivers’ License.
All candidates must satisfy a National Police Check and a Working with Children Check.
