13-2023 - Assistant Secretary, Communications, Ses Band 1

The Treasury is seeking a dynamic senior executive to lead a broad program of work and set the vision for the communications and engagement strategy for a wide range of whole of Government issues.

As Assistant Secretary, Communications you will drive the strategic direction of the Treasury’s engagement and positioning with key stakeholders and the community and will work in partnership with policy teams to deliver high quality outcomes that contribute to strategic and operational objectives.

With responsibility for leading a dynamic team of communication specialists and as a member of the leadership team with First Assistant Secretaries and Deputy Secretaries you will:

develop the strategic direction for Treasury’s overall program of communications to meet organisational objectives and deliver on the government’s needs. This includes guiding the staff responsible for delivery of all components including media relations, social media, event management, corporate and departmental communications, speechwriting, creative design and production and Treasury’s digital strategy.
provide leadership on the production and delivery of the Federal Budget by contributing communications expertise to the strategic planning process, monitoring emerging issues and addressing risks as they arise and delivering high quality results across multiple channels. This involves building highly effective relationships across government and engaging with Treasury portfolio ministers and their staff, key industry stakeholders, the wider community and the media to achieve the intended outcomes.

Tertiary qualification(s) in communications or media is highly desirable.

This position will be Canberra based. Treasury will also use this process to establish a merit pool that may be used to fill other potential vacancies across all areas of Treasury, as required.
