The Apprentice Program is tailored at propel your growth and development and provide you with the opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure projects shaping Australia's energy landscape, including connecting renewable energy to the network. As an apprentice with Transgrid, you can expect hands-on learning and mentorship in a supportive and dynamic environment.

We are seeking driven, team-oriented apprentices who relish problem-solving and collaboration.

During your time as an apprentice within the program, you will receive:

  • Industry leading training and technical experience building, maintaining and running diagnostic test and repairs on High Voltage equipment ranging up to 500kV on Transformers, Circuit Breakers and other primary and secondary plant.

  • Skills in hand tools, workshop machinery and welding

  • Nationally accredited safety training and high-risk licences

  • On the job training and smooth transition into the role

  • Necessary protective clothing and tools required for the job

  • Access to study assistance

  • Upon completion of the apprenticeship, you will receive a certificate of proficiency as an Electrotechnology Electrician

To be eligible for consideration for the Apprentice Program, you must:
  • Have completed high school studies (minimum year 10 or equivalent) by the end of 2024 with sound mathematics and communication skills

  • Be genuinely interested in a trade working within a high voltage electricity transmission network

  • Hold a current driver's licence or be willing to obtain one as soon as possible after appointment

  • Exhibit environmental and social responsibility

  • Possess qualities of a team player, including motivation and willingness to learn

  • Demonstrate lateral thinking and ability to contribute to innovative solutions to complex problems

  • Excel in collaboration with others

  • Communicate clearly

  • Show appreciation for and sensitivity to difference and diversity

  • Be an Australian permanent resident or an Australian or New Zealand citizen 

  • Have the ability to travel and work away from home at various locations when required

  • Have the ability to start in January 2025

The recruitment process and steps:
  • Step 1: Eligibility

  • Confirm your eligibility for the position that you are applying for.

  • Step 2: Submit application

  • Create a profile on our careers site and submit your application.

  • NOTE: You must upload a resume, however a cover letter is not required.

  • Step 3: Screening

  • The recruitment team will review your application and notify you if your application is considered unsuccessful.

  • Step 4: Online testing

  • If you are successfully screened, you will be sent an email to complete online cognitive testing, inclusive of numeracy, literacy and abstract reasoning.

  • Step 5: Shortlisting

  • If you have successfully passed the benchmark for the online cognitive testing, the recruitment will review your application and you will be notified if your application is considered successful.

  • Step 6: Interview Centre

  • If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to attend our in-person Interview Centre in July/August 2024.

  • Step 8: Pre-Employment Checks

  • Successful candidates from the Interview Centre will be invited to complete pre-employment checks.

  • NOTE: Reserve candidates will also be invited to complete pre-employment checks.

  • Step 9: Offer of Employment

  • Preferred successful candidates will be contacted and made a verbal offer of employment, which will be followed by a formal offer that will be sent by email.
