About the Role:

This is a full time 12-month training position with a mix of clinical service, education, research and administrative responsibilities at 86 hours per fortnight within the Department of Adolescent Medicine.

You will be responsible for providing high quality evidence based clinical services for young people and their families, leadership and training of junior medical staff and students and manage inpatients admitted under Adolescent Medicine whist on ward service.

What you’ll achieve:

  • Provide excellent medical services for inpatients and outpatients in partnership with other medical staff and nursing, allied health and administration staff.
  • Coordinate treatment plans for patients communicate these to all relevant team care members.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date patient medical files that record clinical decisions including diagnosis, treatment plans, complications, co-morbidities, procedures performed and reports (via the EMR)
  • Contribute to junior medical staff education through on the job teaching, informal feedback and debriefing.
  • Assist with the medical student teaching programme for students from the University of Melbourne including the Hands on HEADSS program.

Your skills and experience:

  • Medical degree (registrable in Victoria)
  • Advanced trainee (FRACP) having passed both the written and clinical exams
  • Experience in adolescent and/or outpatient health services highly desirable

This position is usually filled by a senior Advanced Trainee in Paediatrics. All Advanced trainees will be considered.

About the Department:

The Department of Adolescent Medicine, The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne, is a multidisciplinary specialty department providing inpatient and outpatient care to adolescents experiencing both physical and mental health concerns. Sub-speciality teams within the Department of Adolescent Medicine include the Eating Disorders Service, specialising in treating adolescents with anorexia nervosa and other restrictive eating disorders, the Gender Service who assist children and adolescents experiencing gender dysphoria, The Transition Support Service providing care in transition from paediatric to adult health providers, the Young People’s Health Service who provide primary health care for marginalised and at risk youth and the Chronic Illness Peer support (ChIPS) team who facilitate peer support, leadership and participation among  adolescent and young adults aged 12-25 living with a chronic illness. Inpatient Adolescent Medicine includes the care of adolescents requiring admission to the RCH for medical conditions with psychosocial complexity, somatisation disorders and medically unstable patients with restrictive type eating disorders.
