We partner closely with our local communities and have a commitment to the traditional owners of the land upon which we operate.Commencing in early January 2025 the Mechanical Fabricator/Welder apprenticeship opportunities will be located at our Pinjarra and Wagerup Refineries and our Huntly mine site.As part of this four-year Apprenticeship Program you will be:
- Provided on the job & formalised TAFE training, leading towards a nationally recognised trade certificate.
- Working in the main workshop or refinery environment, learning the skills of oxy cutting, stick, TIG and MIG welding. Working with various equipment associated with your trade such as guillotines, benders, angle grinders and plate rollers.
- Assisting in fabricating a large range of equipment used throughout the refinery that may include pipework, pressure vessels, screens and structural steelwork.
- Learning how to identify, diagnose and repair mechanical parts on fixed plant equipment from interpreting technical drawings and sketches, plus develop an understanding of material specifications and welding standards.
- Working at times in situations above the ground or in confined spaces where wearing the vital safety equipment is essential.
- Trained in how to mark out a job so that when it is cut and bent into shape it assumes the correct form, as a large percentage of fabrication work is developed from plate steel.

- A high dedication and focus towards safety.
- A good academic record with a proven interest in mechanical fitting and/or machining.
- Involvement in any related extracurricular activities or have gained relevant knowledge in that field.
- A current, valid Australian ‘Learners’ Drivers Licence or working towards.
- Completed a minimum of year 10, with a high pass in Mathematics and English.
- Solid school attendance record.
- Completed a pre-apprenticeship, and relevant trade-based work experience is highly desirable.
