The Australian Golf Club is a private member’s club located 6km from the heart of the Sydney CBD. Inaugurated in 1882 The Australian Golf Club holds the honour of being the oldest golf club in the Commonwealth.
The club holds a special place in Australian golf folklore, having hosted the Australian Open on 22 occasions, including the inaugural event in 1904 and most recent in 2023. The Jack Nicklaus signature design course was redeveloped in 2013, overseen by the Golden Bear himself.
Members of the club and their guests have access to an 18-hole championship golf course, an award-winning driving range and state-of-the-art teaching facility, a short game practice area including a 1,700m² chipping green, 2 synthetic tennis courts, and the iconic, architecturally designed, clubhouse.

The Australian Golf Club is seeking a suitably qualified 2nd Assistant / Foreman to assist with the day-to-day management and supervision of the course maintenance team while in a hands-on role. This person will be an integral part of a dynamic golf course maintenance management team. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and effective leader aiming to achieve standards of excellence and ensure we maintain high levels of work as a team.
The key functions of this position will be planning, leading, organising and executing.
The essential skills you will need to draw upon will be technical, organisational, decision making, conceptual and soft skills. Through your daily performance you will not only be a leader but a role model and example to the team.
Suitable applicants should hold:- Experience working in similar role.
- Management experience with proven leadership capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Certificate IV, diploma, or equivalent qualifications in sports turf management.
- Experience in managing bent grass putting greens. (moisture and disease).
- Significant knowledge of turf grass management in line with the highest club expectations.
- The ability to obtain new skills and adapt to new processes quickly.
- Assist in scheduling, supervising, and leading the team through daily maintenance and larger projects while in a hands-on role.
- Manage bent grass greens for moisture and disease.
- Induct and train staff at all levels.
- Assist in agronomic and irrigation planning.
- Execute fertiliser and chemical applications with precision.
- Lead and participate in construction projects.
- Manage and participate in aspects of tournament golf.
