ABOUT US: We are budget tourist accommodation located in a heritage listed building in a beautiful historical fishing village on the SW Victorian coastline – end of the Great Ocean Road. The building has been welcoming travellers since 1972. We have 13 rooms ranging from shared dormitories to privates with en-suites. We host a great mix of domestic and international guests of all ages, workers, tour groups and families. Over the low season our main demographic is couples and older solo travellers. Our aim is to provide a home away from home where all our guests feel welcome and to promote the local sights and businesses in town and the surrounding area.
HOURS: The low season is very quiet in Port Fairy and the average hours per week will be approximately 20-30 across 5 days. There is the opportunity for further hours if you have painting or gardening skills. Work in the morning and enjoy your afternoons/evenings off in our beautiful historical seaside town without the crowds of the busy summer season.
YOU: You will be computer literate and have excellent customer service skills. We want to provide the best guest experience and you must be willing to go the extra mile to connect and make our guests feel welcome. Attention to detail and cleanliness is an absolute must. You must be outgoing, friendly, have excellent communication skills and be confident talking to guests from different cultures and walks of life and making them feel at home. You will have some assistance from the owner and cleaners on busy days but you must be self-motivated as this is a mostly autonomous job.
PAY: This role is paid at an hourly rate according to the Hospitality Industry (General) Award [MA000009]. Ideally, we’d like this role to be shared between a couple or two friends or a semi-retired couple however, we will consider single applicants also. Perfect for someone who is studying remotely, has a part time job where they can work remotely or someone wanting a break from their travels.
The live-in package includes you been on call for any in house guest assistance (late check-ins, lost keys, emergencies etc). You must be able to commit to working until October. Experience in housekeeping or accommodation is preferred but a friendly, can-do attitude is more important as we are willing to train the right applicant.
ACCOMMODATION: The accommodation is on-site in a one-bedroom self-contained unit with bills included. Unfortunately, you must not have any pets as we have a hostel dog on-site (you must be dog friendly).
INTERESTED? Please respond with your work history and a cover letter telling us a bit about yourself and why you are perfect for the role. Please note that applicants without a cover letter will not be considered.
