Safer Family Services Intensive Family Services provides direct services to families through the antenatal period, for infants, children, and young people up to 18 years of age who are presenting with high level risks and complexities. SFS work in collaboration with both government and non-government organisations to improve the safety, emotional health and wellbeing of infants, children, and young people in South Australia.
SFS are seeking Aboriginal Cultural Leads to join the team on a full-time basis.
The role is responsible for:
- Managing a team of Aboriginal Cultural Consultants and providing practice and Cultural Leadership, cultural supervision, strategic direction, and support to a broad range of stakeholders on matters relating to services provided to Aboriginal families.
- Providing comprehensive cultural expertise contributing to the development and implementation of an evidence informed service to Aboriginal children, young people, families, and staff in response to the health, wellbeing and cultural safety needs of Aboriginal children, families and community.
- Providing cultural intelligence and expertise to the development of policy and programs within Safer Family Services and the broader organisation.
- Collaborate with clinical leads to offer cultural consultation on intricate, contentious, and highly sensitive cases, ensuring adherence to legislative requirements and associated government and departmental policies and procedures.
About You
We are looking for motivated individuals who have the ability to advise, consult, liaise, and negotiate on matters of cultural significance for families and with all levels of management utilising knowledge of contemporary psychosocial assessments and interventions with Aboriginal families.
You will have a genuine comprehension of Aboriginal culture, peoples, their ancestral lands, traditions, and the enduring effects of colonial systems on Aboriginal children, families, and communities.
Furthermore, you will have the ability and experience in leading multidisciplinary teams in a changing environment using a flexible supervision style, to model high quality practice standards, and to identify staff learning needs.

Special Conditions
DHS considers that being Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under sub-s 56(2) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (SA). Therefore, this position is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicant.
Essential Qualifications:
- An appropriate Social Work qualification from a recognised tertiary institution giving eligibility for full membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers
- Persons of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, who have the appropriate background and skills but do not have the essential qualification, may apply for and be engaged/assigned to the role of Social Worker and will be entitled to apply for any Allied Health Professional roles requiring a qualification in Social Work within the Department Human Services.
- National Police Check required.
- Employment-related Screening Check required.
- Some interstate and intrastate travel may be required.
- Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence (equivalent to minimum class C).
- Covid -19 – will be required to be up to date on their COVID-19 vaccination status prior to engagement with DHS, unless it would be medically unsafe for the employee to do so.
- Role Status: Term up to 18 months.
