The HUGS Service Centre assesses applications for the Hardship Utility Grants Scheme (HUGS).  The intent of the scheme is to assist customers with their connection to essential services in situations where they are unable to meet their financial obligations to a utility provider.  Referred applicants are assessed for eligibility to a one off grant payment, as well as provided information and referral support to minimise the chance of issues re-occurring in the future.  The Service Centre also provides support on better managing energy and water usage.

The Emergency Relief and Food Access Service provides an assisted access pathway connecting individuals to emergency and food relief as well as connecting them through to their local service providers. 

These roles are based in Bunbury, at our contact centre in the heart of the city!

About the role

As an Aboriginal Financial Support Worker, you will provide a phone based service to clients, many of whom are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.  You will ensure clients receive a culturally appropriate service that assists people experiencing immediate financial crisis.  This is a high volume service, with the call centre operating from 9am until 7pm Monday and Tuesday and 9am until 5pm Wednesday to Friday.

You will be comfortable using a range of IT systems to manage calls, collect information from clients and assess eligibility for HUGS grants.  You will build great rapport with clients, collecting necessary information and identifying opportunities to refer to other relevant support services.

This is a maximum term, part time opportunity until 30 June 2024.  22.5 hours a week is available, with the option to increase to 30 hours a week.  Successful applicants should have flexibility in work hours, with preference for candidates who can work Mondays and Tuesdays 11am until 7pm.  Casual positions also available.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Basic numeracy skills and the ability to develop household budgets
  • High level of interpersonal skills
  • Basic understanding and ability to use IT systems and be eager to learn new systems
  • Good attention to detail
  • An openness to change and seek creative solutions
  • Experience in promoting positive engagement with clients, especially clients who are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander

You also must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year.

Remuneration and benefits

  • Maximum term contract until 30 June 2024 (with possibility of extension)
  • Work 3 - 4 days per week (hours must include 11am to 7pm Monday and Tuesday)
  • $62,812 per annum (pro rata for part time) + 11% super + annual leave and personal leave
  • Tax-free salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 per annum may be available
