- Remuneration: $30.46- $44.02 per hour, excluding superannuation.
The Aboriginal Health Worker - Palliative Care will facilitate culturally tailored care for Aboriginal people, their families and community facing life limiting illnesses.
The Aboriginal Health Worker will support culturally safe models of care, including shared care, across the community and inpatient operations of the Palliative Care service and its partners.
As a member of the Social Work and Palliative Care Department, the Aboriginal Health Worker will work collaboratively to lead better community and stakeholder engagement, as well as awareness and education.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored and acceptable care coordination for patients, families and communities receiving inpatient Palliative Care in a Hospice setting.
- Cultural leadership and advocacy in development of departmental models of care, including culturally safe and effective bereavement services and referral pathways.
- Work as an expert member of the multidisciplinary team to ensure that appropriate assessment, care planning and management is tailored to individual needs and preferences of each Aboriginal client, their family and significant others.
- This is a position identified for Aboriginal people and exemption is claimed under Section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality in addition to addressing the selection criteria. Please review the Position Description for more information.
- Minimum Certificate III qualification in Aboriginal Primary Health Care or Certificate III qualification in a relevant health or community field.
- Demonstrated understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal People in contexts of illness, loss and grief, and relevant policies and strategies.
- Current NSW Drivers licence – The position requires travel within community.
- A desire to join a team committed to the care of others in a mission-based organisation.
The Calvary Mater Newcastle is an Affiliated Health Organisation providing services to both public and private patients primarily from the Hunter New England area. Current employees of NSW Health can request to have various leave entitlement balances transferred to Calvary Mater Newcastle on commencement.
