Base Salary: $88,892.70 - $99,617.95 p.a

Role Description

The Aboriginal Health Workforce Traineeship Program (AHWTP) is designed to increase the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people attaining health qualifications leading to ongoing employment in the Aboriginal Community Controlled Primary Health Care sector.   

The Aboriginal Health Workforce Traineeship Program (AHWTP) Coordinator will coordinate and lead delivery of the Program in conjunction with multiple stakeholders.  The coordinator will develop and implement detailed plans to attract, train and retain trainees, and work closely with AMSANT members in the NT to build capability as host employers, and engage with and work closely with RTO’s.   The coordinator will provide ongoing advice and support through frequent contact with AMSANT member services and will be expected to conduct site visits to participating AMSANT member services to establish and maintain relationships and support members and trainees participating in the program.  The coordinator will also promote available Aboriginal Health Workforce education and training initiatives and opportunities.

Responsibilities

  1. Project manage AMSANT Aboriginal Health Workforce Traineeship Program.
  2. Frequently liaise and engage with all stakeholders in the planning, development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of AMSANT Aboriginal Health Workforce Traineeship Program.
  3. Promote the program and support AMSANT members to participate in the program, which may include engaging with prospective candidates and supporting selection of candidates to participate in the Traineeship Program.
  4. Assist members to ensure appropriate processes and conditions are in place in relation to work placements including
    • Trainee onboarding and enrolment processes 
    • Safe work practices, including culturally safe working environment.
    • Ensure appropriate level of support, mentoring and supervision available to all trainees at each workplace.
  5. Support trainees both during education and training placements and workplace by providing guidance, support and mentorship for the duration of the program.
  6. Manage and coordinate sob contract agreements and ensure all documentation and compliance reporting is completed at a high level and in a timely manner.
  7. The position will require frequent travel to attend study blocks, and undertake site visits, including to remote communities to support host employers and trainees.
  8. Regular participation in work unit and programming meetings
  9. Other activities as directed by the WALS team Manager.

Selection Requirements (Qualifications & Attributes)

ESSENTIAL

  1. Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures, histories, politics, and principles of Aboriginal community-controlled health sector.
  2. Demonstrate an ability to effectively communicate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner.
  3. Certificate IV Aboriginal Health qualification and or experience in a similar role or equivalent level of expertise gained from a combination of experience, training, skills, and personal attributes.
  4. Proven ability to simultaneously coordinate projects and activities, including the ability to work independently, coordinate and deliver on multiple projects with multi-disciplinary teams.
  5. Excellent oral and written skills and the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of internal and external partners and stakeholders in an environment requiring cultural sensitivity.
  6. Ability to effectively engage with a diverse range of organisations and individuals at all levels and linking trainees to professional support.
  7. Ability to regularly travel within the NT to regional and remote communities by road and light aircraft.

DESIRABLE

  1. Certificate IV Training and Assessment
  2. Knowledge of Aboriginal Health workforce and qualifications
  3. Detailed knowledge of and understanding of the work of AMSANT

  • Original qualifications must be available for viewing and copies to be kept on personnel file.

  • The COVID-19 Safety Management Plan and other COVID – 19 related information Policy and Procedure require all AMSANT employees to have had a third COVID-19 Vaccination. Temporary or permanent exemptions apply in certain circumstances.
  • Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger) and possess a C class Driver’s Licence.
