About the role:
This is an exciting new position joining our team of Lactation Consultants, to provide lactation advice that promotes, protects, and supports breastfeeding for mothers and families of neonates in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Ensuring that culturally responsive health care and cultural needs for the Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander woman operate in the current models of care. In this role you will provide guidance/support and education for Nursing, Midwifery, and Medical Health Professionals.
Where you’ll be working:
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at John Hunter Children’s Hospital on the lands of the Awabakal people, is one of the largest and busiest NICU’s in NSW. This 44-bed unit provides Intensive Care support for newborns requiring medical and surgical care in the HNE and Mid North Coast area.
You will join a dynamic, dedicated, passionate team of Health Professionals who provide evidenced-based care, individualised care to promote and provide the best possible outcome for neonates, in a state-of-the-art Unit, with the latest healthcare technology.

Requirements:
Our successful candidate will possess the following:
Registered Nurse with current Authority to Practice with AHPRA.
International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant certification or working towards same.

About you:
You will be a motivated, enthusiastic Indigenous Nurse, with neonatal experience, with a passion for lactation and breastfeeding.
You will be an Endorsed IBILC or working towards the same.
You will be self-motivated, flexible, adaptable, empathetic, and demonstrate commitment to culturally safe care.
You will have high-level communication skills, both verbal and written.
