The Royal Women’s Hospital is one of Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary hospitals dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns, offering specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health. Our goal is to be the best place to work, learn and contribute, and to provide exceptional experiences for our patients and consumers.

About CASA House

The Centre Against Sexual Assault (CASA House) is an outpatient department of the Royal Women's Hospital, located in the heart of Melbourne's CBD. CASA House provides appointment-based services and 24/7 crisis support to victim-survivors of all genders. At CASA House you'll be joining a collaborative and progressive team, who are passionate about providing victim survivors with timely support.

About the role

This cadetship aims to provide an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Social Work student with a hands-on opportunity to learn about supporting and advocating for victim-survivors of sexual assault. It will increase confidence and knowledge in clinical practice settings, and develop work readiness skills. This role will work as a part of the CASA House intake & crisis response team and support other parts of the CASA House team, including the CASA House office manager.

A regular day will see you:

  • Respond to calls on the intake and crisis phone lines and monitor the intake email inbox
  • Provide information regarding CASA House's services, supports, options and waiting lists
  • Complete intake assessments

About you

Due to the specialised nature of this department, this role is ideal for a Victorian Social Work student in their final year/s of pre-qualifying study. This role is an opportunity for a student of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and is accepted by the Victorian Aboriginal community as such.

You’ll bring with you:

  • Demonstrated awareness of trauma-informed practice
  • Awareness of relevant legislation and practice frameworks relating to sexual assault and family violence practice
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the capacity to actively reflect on practice and receive and provide feedback

Our benefits

At the Women’s you will enjoy a culture that is collaborative, supportive and passionate about learning. We have a strong sense of purpose and engage in meaningful work every day. We offer our people a range of rewarding benefits, including:

  • $11,660 in salary packaging benefits, for living expenses, meals and holiday accommodation
  • A suite of wellness initiatives designed to support you, including discounted financial, lifestyle and health options, and a comprehensive wellbeing program
  • Public transport options
  • Mentoring, learning and career development opportunities
  • Five weeks of annual leave and 17.5% leave loading
  • Support for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander staff through our Karreeta Networking and Mentoring group and culturally safe professional supervision sessions.

Inclusion and belonging

The Women’s celebrates, values and supports a diverse and inclusive environment which reflects our vibrant community. We encourage applications from anyone identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. We also welcome anyone who identifies as LGBTQIA+, physically, linguistically, culturally and/or gender diverse, and people of any age to apply for our roles. We are committed to gender equity principles, and our people have an awareness of and sensitive approach to violence against women and family violence matters. We are proudly Breastfeeding Association accredited.

Join us!

If you feel this role is right for you we warmly invite you to apply, and encourage your early application. All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory National Police Check, a Working with Children Check and three COVID-19 vaccinations, and may include a range of additional vaccinations including influenza, as required by the Department of Health. If you need assistance or require any reasonable adjustments to fully participate in the application or interview process, you are welcome to reach out to the contact person listed. We acknowledge that not all applicants will meet the full list of selection criteria outlined, and wherever possible we will consider applications where relevant experience can apply.
