Job description

Job description - Actor Trainers

Perform Australia is an award-winning drama school and registered training organisation (RTO 40859) delivering high quality actor education and nationally recognised qualifications to Advanced Diploma level.

We're seeking Actor Trainers with a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain one) to teach up-and-coming young actors in our 10915NAT Certificate IV in Acting and our 11017NAT Advanced Diploma of Performance in Canberra.

We're therefore looking for trained, professional actors with strengths in one or more of the following areas:

  • Acting technique
  • Screen acting
  • Theatre acting and production
  • Directing
  • Movement
  • History of Acting
  • Auditioning and related industry skills

to join our teaching team for both fixed term and relief teaching. We prefer to have a range of teachers available who can teach a few hours a week within their own "zone of genius". We provide guidance on curriculum and educational compliance issues.

The roles will begin in late January at our Griffith studio in Canberra.

Our classes run weekly at set times. For consistency in the education of our students, you need to make a regular weekly commitment. If rehearsal or performance commitments will take you away from a regular weekly commitment to teaching for extended periods of time, this may exclude you from taking on a role with us in term time.

Essential - All applicants must:

  • Hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, the vocational education teaching qualification, or be willing to attain one
  • Hold a Working With Vulnerable People Card
  • Hold a minimum Advanced Diploma qualification in acting
  • Have recent professional performance credits across stage and/or screen and be currently connected with industry
  • Be able to create a good rapport with adult students of any age (average student age is mostly between 17-25, but we’ll often have older students)
  • Be willing to work day or evening shifts - you can specify

More than that, we're looking for a team of people who:

  • Are artists at heart
  • Know how to teach (as opposed to how to act or direct)
  • Wholeheartedly support our company values of Passion, Industry, Community, Generosity, and Story
  • Appreciate the challenges that young people face, particularly in the area of mental health and social stresses in the post-COVID world
  • Are willing to support our ethos of building students up, by working with their strengths, rather than tearing them down to “rebuild” them
  • Are willing to work hard to provide the highest quality education even if you are only working a few hours a week with us

To express your interest in a teaching role, reply with your CV and a letter to Ms Elizabeth Scott highlighting your area of expertise as an acting teacher.

Job Types: Part-time, Fixed term
