The ongoing full-time position(80+ADO) presents an exciting opportunity to gain invaluable experience in this rapidly growing field.Suitable candidates will be highly motivated and self-driven, and have the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team. Previous experience working in an accredited Diagnostic Molecular Pathology/Genetics laboratory and an demonstratable understanding of medical terminology would be an advantage.Applicants to this role should provide a covering letter outlining relative key skills and experience to assist us with our assessment.Victorian Department of Health has recently announced a program of reforms across the public pathology system in Victoria. As part of these reforms, the pathology services from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the Royal Women's Hospital and the Royal Children's Hospital will transition to a new separate public pathology entity. The new model for delivering public pathology services will present an exciting opportunity to improve the scope, scale and reach of pathology services and testing capability to all Victorians.As this role is with Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, the successful candidate for this role will be initially employed by Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Once the new public pathology entity is fully formed, which is anticipated to be in late 2024, this position and the successful candidate's employment (including terms and conditions of employment) will transition to the new public pathology entity. Contact Number 03 8559 8400Applications Close: 11:59PM 17 May 2024.Position SummaryTo support the Molecular Pathology Laboratory to provide the highest quality of molecular services to the patients of Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre and its external clients through the provision of day to day administrative support to the department. Key duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide leadership to the Molecular Pathology Administration Team
  • Supervise and manage team to meet clinical requirements and turn-around-times.
  • Promote a patient and client-oriented service.
  • Provide word processing, audio-typing, filing, diary management and other record keeping services (including minute-taking).
  • Specimen receipt and accessioning.
  • Request, track & follow-up requests for testing materials from external laboratories.
  • Telephony
  • Input and extraction of data to providing basic information / reports (from a number of clerical & LIMS systems).
  • Working collaboratively and cooperatively with others, delegating a variety of tasks contributing to achievement of work area outcomes
  • Providing induction training for other employees within team
  • Maintaining a good understanding of hospital systems.
  • Understanding hospital procedures, information requirements and protocols in order to communicate and provide support to members of the public.

1. Provide support to Molecular Pathology as Team Leader.
  • Leads the efficient running of the Molecular Pathology administration team to ensure duties & tasks are undertaken in a timely and accurate manner and communicating clearly.
2. Provide timely and responsive administrative support for Molecular Pathology Management Team
  • Provide required support to Molecular Pathology Management Team including (but limited to): diary management, timely organisation of meetings & accurate transcription and dissemination of meeting proceedings.
  • Ensures phones are covered at all times and refers calls appropriately.
  • All tasks completed within appropriate and specified time frames.
  • Applies hospital and divisional procedures and policies in all dealings.
3. Database entry of patient requests/information into pathology laboratory systems
  • Prompt and accurate data entry. Uses relevant pathology-related programs, packages and functions to track and complete tasks effectively and efficiently.
4. Sourcing and receipting of pathological specimens for testing from external laboratories
  • Accurate and timely request, follow up and distribution upon receipt of pathological materials.

  • Accurate filing of records/slides to facilitate fast retrieval
6. Organise and send patient reports
  • Manage the printing, faxing and send out of patient reports as required

  • Ensures all tasks completed within appropriate and specified time frames
8. Works as part of a team
  • Communicates and cooperates with co-workers to ensure work is completed within appropriate timeframes.
