About the role 

The RTW Co-ordinator role can be based at one of our four locations: Tuggerah (head office), Beresfield, Maitland, or Dungog.  

The Return to Work Co-ordinator will work closely with injured employees, their managers, and other key stakeholders to ensure they receive the support they need to Return to Work effectively. The successful candidate will be responsible for maximising worker rehabilitation outcomes, minimising the impact on insurance premiums, and maintaining a positive safety culture. The role also involves ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, supporting continuous improvement in Workers Compensation claims performance, health and wellbeing activities, and effectively achieving the organisation's strategic goals, vision, and purpose.  

The position reports to the Work Health Safety & Risk Manager and involves regular interactions with Workers, People & Culture, Work Health and Safety, Rehabilitation providers, the insurers, treating parties, and Senior Management. 

 Key Responsibility Areas include (but are not limited to): 

Vision, Purpose and Values 

  • Actively develop and promote the desired organisational culture by ensuring all interactions, documentation, and communications align with and support the organisation’s vision, purpose, and values. 

Claims Management 

  • Lead and manage ADSSI’s Return-to-Work (RTW) Program and liaise regularly with the insurer to ensure claims progress in an effective and timely manner. 

  • Assist in developing and implementing timely RTW arrangements and plans for workers who have suffered work-related and non-work-related injuries and conditions.  

  • Establish and maintain contact with the injured worker to encourage them to actively participate in developing the rehabilitation program. 

  • Ensure that rehabilitation and RTW are developed and formally documented in consultation with all relevant stakeholders 

  • Follow agreed injury management processes. 

  • Ensure RTW related activities are actioned and resolved appropriately within organisational KPIs and reporting timeframes, ensuring the maintenance of current Certificates of Capacity 

Injury Management and Prevention 

  • Promote injury management & RTW processes. Educate managers, supervisors & workers. Encourage good RTW outcomes.  

  • Regularly monitor, analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of workplace injury management programs and identify continuous improvement opportunities 

Compliance and continuous quality improvement 

  • Foster a working environment that values best practices and continuous quality improvement.  


About you 

The successful candidate should possess a minimum 2-3 years of experience in a Return to Work role, coupled with SIRA-accredited Return to Work Coordinator training. Additionally, candidates must hold a valid Class C Driver’s Licence and be willing to travel between sites and medical appointments. Desirable qualifications include current First Aid and Mental Health First Aid Certificates, with an understanding of design and implementation of workplace health and wellbeing initiatives.

Candidates will exhibit strong, communication, negotiation, and consultation skills, with a comprehensive understanding of workers' compensation legislative standards. Proficiency in technology, time management, and a commitment to continuous improvement are essential, along with a focus on stakeholder engagement and achieving key performance indicators using a business-oriented approach.
